We are thrilled to share that our Computer Design, Research, and Learning Center at the University of Illinois Chicago, designed in collaboration with Booth Hansen, is a finalist for a 2026 AIA Chicago Design Excellence Award in the Architecture Medium category.

The Computer Design, Research, and Learning Center at the University of Illinois Chicago provides a dynamic new home for the Computer Science department, supporting 2,100 undergraduates in an inclusive, student-centered environment. Organized around a five-story atrium, the 135,000-square-foot building unifies classrooms, labs, and social spaces to foster collaboration and innovation. Warm materials, natural light, and views to Memorial Grove create a welcoming atmosphere. The CDRLC advances UIC’s mission of technological leadership and sustainability, featuring a geothermal field and LEED Gold design, while bridging the university’s architectural heritage with a forward-looking vision for research and learning.

At the University of California, Irvine, the Falling Leaves Foundation Medical Innovation Building is where groundbreaking science happens. Designed for discovery, the building brings researchers together through three interconnected zones: a Personal Investigation Hub with offices, social spaces, and a rooftop terrace; a Laboratory Bar outfitted for safe, adaptable, high-performance research; and a Collaboration Seam that links them both, sparking the kind of cross-disciplinary exchange that drives real breakthroughs.

The facade balances transparency and privacy, pairing glass curtain walls with sculptural precast panels to flood workspaces with daylight while framing sweeping campus views. Outside, thoughtfully designed gathering spaces anchor the Wellness Walk and open onto the Medical Sciences Quad, creating a welcoming hub for the entire UC Irvine community.

Functional, flexible, and deeply connected to its campus, this building is more than a research facility. It is a catalyst for the future of healthcare.

Tomorrow, our Associate Partner Robert Smith joins an incredible group of collaborators for the “Founders Hall: Performance-Based Landscape Case Study” walking tour at the 2026 WASLA Field Day!

Founders Hall expands the UW Foster School of Business at the University of Washington while redefining the edge of Denny Yard, the oldest portion of campus. The landscape surrounding our cross-laminated timber building celebrates the site’s ecological heritage through native meadow plantings, restored topography, and stormwater systems that support long-term stewardship. This guided tour explores how a collaborative, performance-based design process can create resilient, site-specific campus landscapes that enhance biodiversity and build a distinct “only at UW” identity.

We are thrilled to share that Morgridge Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison designed by LMN Architects in collaboration with Kahler Slater has received a 2026 AIA Wisconsin Merit Award, recognizing overall design excellence from a competitive field of 46 entries!

Morgridge Hall is a 327,000 SF gateway building on the UW-Madison campus designed to foster pioneering interdisciplinary collaboration. The building brings together four institutional entities focused on advancing computer and data-science research, creating distinct homes for each program while establishing three key ecosystems: a Learning Ecosystem with active learning classroom seats, a Student Ecosystem promoting wellness and inclusivity, and a Research Ecosystem with thematic hubs and labs for cross-disciplinary collaboration. At the heart of the building, a central atrium called “The Heart” provides daylight and visual connections across all levels, serving as a destination for industry partnerships and campus community alike.

We are proud to see this project celebrated alongside 16 other outstanding works in Wisconsin. Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees!

We are proud to share that the Undergraduate Academic Building at the University of California, Berkeley has achieved LEED Gold certification from the USGBC.

Located between historic Campanile Way and Strawberry Creek green space, the building bridges the academic core and student life facilities across the creek. As UC Berkeley’s first mass timber building, the project charts a new course for sustainable construction on campus.

LMN Architects and TEF worked with Atelier Ten, environmental design and LEED consultant, to integrate holistic sustainability strategies throughout the project. The all-electric, PV-ready building integrates a range of high-performance strategies, including naturally ventilated offices and classrooms, operable windows, exterior shading, and advanced heat pump systems. The L-shaped design supports passive shading from surrounding buildings along the north and west facades, while exposed mass timber reduces embodied carbon and creates warm, welcoming interiors.

Columbus is getting a world-class aquarium, and LMN Architects is proud to be designing it.

The John F. Wolfe Aquarium at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium will transform the zoo into a year-round destination, bringing immersive aquatic experiences to Central Ohio and drawing visitors from across the country. LMN is working alongside exhibit design partners Thinc Design to create a facility that connects people to the three-quarters of our planet covered by water, deepening the relationship between communities and the natural world.

The project represents a bold new chapter for one of the country’s largest and most-attended zoos. “Having an amazing aquatic program focused on the three-quarters of the Earth that’s covered by water, to me, it’s just a natural extension to the story that we’re telling and getting people connected to wildlife,” said zoo CEO Tom Schmid. Made possible in part by a $50 million gift from the Wolfe family, the aquarium is the largest expansion in the zoo’s nearly 100-year history.

Six World Cup matches. One city. One sculpture.

We designed, fabricated, and installed The Kick — a twenty-foot-tall, forced-perspective sculpture welcoming guests to Seattle at the entry of our 1st Ave Shop. Built in two weeks, entirely in-house, it brought everyone from partners to recent hires together with tools in hand.

We also used the build to test an augmented-reality fabrication method, overlaying our 3D model directly onto our production space to fit rebar in real time. Laser-cut steel brackets. Painted plywood panels. A process as considered as the form itself.

On June 8, we had the honor of hosting the ACE Mentor Program of Washington Industry Leaders Reception at The Shop, bringing together students, mentors, and industry partners to celebrate a remarkable year for architecture, engineering, and construction education across our region.

This year, more than 400 students from 91 Seattle-area high schools connected with 248 professional mentors, forming 16 teams across Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, and a virtual option. The evening’s highlight: Associate Chris Martin received the Outstanding Mentor Award from ACE Vice President Brad Strandquist, recognizing his exceptional dedication to guiding the next generation through the design and construction process.

A heartfelt thank you to every LMN team member who gave their time and passion to the ACE program this year. The impact is real. We’re also grateful to our collaborators, ACE, Skanska, Portrayals Portrait Studio, and Green Apple Events and Catering, for helping make the evening a success.

We are honored to receive an Honorable Mention in The Architect's Newspaper’s 2026 Best of Practice Awards, Architect Large Firm West category.

At LMN Architects, we recognize that design has the potential to shape a person’s daily experience, the cohesion of a community, and even the direction of society and culture. This commitment carries through every project we take on, from the Seattle Aquarium Ocean Pavilion and the Seattle Convention Center Summit building to a 7,000-sf headquarters renovation that achieved a 65% embodied carbon reduction through circular design principles.
