Heavy snow is coming with wind which will cause drifts. For those who have furnace and boiler exhaust flue discharges through the side wall of your house or building, typically a "direct vent" appliance, be aware these snow drifts may block the flue exhaust, intake or both. This will choke of the exhaust and trip the system. This also is true for on-demand water heaters and gas fireplaces as well as generators. So be mindful to check their surroundings. Pass this on to friends and neighbors. Once your system "trips" of a blocked flue, some you may be able to reset by turning the system off for a couple seconds, then back on. Some of you may need a service person to reset. Good luck and be safe.

Now is not the time to be frugal with your heating system. I would advise to NOT lower your thermostats or unused zones to save on energy costs. At least not for a few days or until the outdoor temperatures rise somewhat. This bitter cold finds its way through cracks and leaks through your house, windows and attics, creating a potential dangerous freeze threat to water pipes. Be safe.

Greetings All, I thought it important and helpful to share some recommendations and awareness to the upcoming record low temperatures we are about to get. For those who normally set their thermostats to a lower temperature overnight or while they're away or even closed for the weekend if you have a business, I would ignore the economical savings this weekend and leave the heat set high if not higher. The cost of frozen pipes far exceed the higher energy costs for this short period. If you have remote rooms or smaller bathrooms, leave the cabinet doors open overnight to allow better air flow to the piping. Of course, make sure all your outdoor hose bibs are drained too. I suggest setting your space temperatures warmer than normal. And do this BEFORE the weather turns cold! This creates a "thermal mass" of your home, office or building. It's easier to "maintain" a building temperature than to try warm it from a cold condition. At best, your home or business heating system was designed using an outdoor temperature of zero degrees. This is the area standard. This weekend will see VERY sub-zero temperatures, so even at the very best, your system will struggle. Hopefully this helps and good luck.

Hello All. I hope this post finds you all safe. I thought to share some information that I had come across. We've used , and still use, a product that cleans & sanitizes A/C unit indoor coils. It is a product from Nu-Calgon and is called "Evap-Fresh, no rinse". It is a treatment applied directly to the indoor coil and interior cabinet. I was reviewing the product data sheet and noticed this product has been previously tested and approved by the EPA in effectively controlling and killing many viruses. Including SARS and Human Coronavirus. Ironically these tests and recognition all came before this outbreak. We've primarily used it in the past to treat and control mold and typical normal bacteria found in air streams, especially where moisture is present. Reading this data sheet really opened my eyes to the many benefits of this product. I will try to attach the data sheets to review. But you may want to research this as well. And if this treatment interests you, please call me to discuss @ 203-925-9828. Thank you and Be Well!

Subject Line: Prevent Carbon Monoxide Positioning

Dear Valued Customers and friends,

If your heating system vents directly outside through a wall in your basement or first floor (versus going straight up a stack or chimney through the roof), please check the vent outside regularly and be sure to keep it clear of snow and ice. With the snow really piling up, it's extremely important to have an unobstructed exhaust vent to keep dangerous carbon monoxide from building up inside your home. As you may know, carbon monoxide is odorless but deadly. If you're not sure what type of vent you have or where it is located, feel free to contact me.

If you have a gas-powered dryer, also make sure that vent is cleared away too because carbon monoxide won't have anywhere to go but back into your house.

Another potential source of carbon monoxide is a blocked car tailpipe so be sure to keep the exhaust area of your vehicle clear as well.

Thank you and stay safe and warm this winter, Mark
