Many people know that I started my professional mechanic career at a Komatsu dealership. There are still two things I tell everyone that asks my opinion on KM equipment.

1. They make the best excavator hands down.

2. They are one of the hardest machines to work on.

While the issues with Komatsu are not very frequent, when they do pop up, you better be ready. They are top of the line machines for comfort and efficiency, but they leave some to be desired on the ease of maintenance side of things. It’s nice going back to my roots every once in a while and try to remember all the stuff I once knew about these things.

The other picture is from a limestone quarry which I spent several years in as well. I don’t miss it even though I learned a lot during that time. But, it is very important to me to not forget where we came from. These experiences shaped a very big part of my skills and knowledge.

Don’t forget where you’ve come from and how far you’ve made it! Have a blessed weekend.

Deep down all of us have some kind of motivation to keep us doing what we do. Whether it’s family or finances, there’s some driving factor to keep you showing up and doing the work.

Sometimes I feel like I spend too much time away from my wife and sons but I think they understand for the most part. I get cool pictures like this sometimes when I get home. It’s a reminder that I have the most important few in my corner. This time of the year always seems to be the most time deprived.

I’m ready for the fall, shorter days, some time around fires, and hoodie weather. Deer season and some trail riding sounds good too.

What keeps you pushing forward?

You don’t get the nickname “Salty” for no reason.

This dude grinded it out in the heat with ol dad today knocking out a couple windshield replacements and a 500 hr service.

I’ve always been a believer in there being no replacement for “on the job” experience. These boys ought to have plenty by the time we’re ready to turn them loose.

Effective time management in this industry is a lot like communism. It sounds really good on paper but it just doesn’t work.

Between emergency breakdowns, waiting on parts, and scheduling planned maintenance during normal work hours; something normally goes awry.

I know how full my schedule is right now and I know it’s very similar to most of your’s as well.

Some jobs are taking a little longer to complete because of these reasons. There’s been several nights this week working under lights trying to keep up, so I can assure you it’s not from lack of effort.

Thanks for your patience and understanding while trying to get everybody back up and going.

“You’ll have that on those big jobs” is a jobsite classic that gets thrown around a lot. But the truth is, you’ll have it on the small jobs as well.

It’s very rare that a job goes completely as planned. Being able to adapt and overcome is what sets the stage for feast or famine.

This company has somehow surrounded itself with customers and people who just flat out get the job done no matter what it takes.

Props to all you guys and your teams for figuring it out every time a curveball presents itself. We’ll be right there with you figuring our part out to get your machines back to making you money.

Thankful for each and every one of you. Keep making the difficult stuff look easy. See you out there.

We left at 7am on the 4th of July for a six day storm power restoration in PA. Three days in Allentown and three in Lancaster.

These line crews were knocking out outage tickets from the time we got there until they released us last night. I find myself watching the outage maps constantly and I’m always impressed by how fast they drop.

And Lancaster means you have to slip off for a quick trip to the most famous archery shop in the country.

A few break downs along the way but all the trucks are back in the yard.

The longer these trips last, the more you miss home. I had a “welcome home” party waiting on me when I walked through the door. Letters, artwork, and hugs all around and it never felt so good.

Thankful for these opportunities and even more thankful to come home to a house full of people I love.

Check on your “big back” friends in this heat. Proper hydration starts the night before. And no your Mich Ultras don’t count as water 😂

Be safe and stay in that a/c as much as possible.

Ever feel like there’s not enough hours in the day?

It’s easy to get in the mindset of “being behind” or feeling like you can’t get caught up. I struggle with that quite a bit.

The truth is we were designed to work. God assigned work to Adam before the fall of man (before sin entered the world). Work was originally assigned to us to be a fulfilling activity and a means to partner with God in caring for His creation. Not just a means of survival that the world has turned it into.

So we aren’t behind on anything. Time is the only thing you can’t get back or make more of. All we can do is try to manage it and be ready when He sends us. I firmly believe God will never put more on your plate than you can handle.

Have a great week!

My wife and my boys have always heard me say “it’s starts with the coal bed”. That started when they were getting a lesson on building fires but I think it resonates with most aspects of life.

A good foundation and understanding of what’s in front of you and where you want to go is what separates the spectators from the players. I find that that mindset helps me daily with troubleshooting problems on these machines as well as keeping me connected with Christ.

The relay in this picture was working on the control side (clicking) but couldn’t pass any current on the working side with that melted contact. A solid understanding of how electricity works and a step by step troubleshooting process makes these finds fairly simple. Without that foundation and time spent in this environment and exposure to these issues, it would have left me scratching my head and extended the time of this job.

Be safe out there. And tend your coal bed.

I normally try to leave the diesel pickup work alone but there’s just something about a 6.0 powerstroke.

Either you love them or you hate them and there is absolutely no in between.

Regardless of how you feel about them, they are hands down the best sounding diesel engine on the road to this day. And if you disagree then you’re wrong 😂

This 6 leaker lives to see another day after a low voltage event decided to damage the FICM and only fire the passenger side cylinders.
