The STEM Funders Network (SFN) announced that the North Louisiana STEM Alliance has been selected as one of the 10 STEM Learning Ecosystems to join the STEM Learning Ecosystems Initiative, a national initiative, initially developed in 2015-16 beginning with 27 STEM Learning Ecosystems communities across the United States. The North Louisiana STEM Alliance is made up of Sci-Port Discovery Center, the Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana, Shreve Memorial Library, R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Starbase Louisiana, Volunteers of America North Louisiana, Coalition of Out of School Time Services (COSTS), Community Foundation of North Louisiana, Step Forward, Bossier Parish Public Schools, Caddo Parish Public Schools, Alt3D Tech, Capital One Bank, Cohab, U.S. Forest Service, Cyber Innovation Center, Children&Families – LA Center, Learning RX of Shreveport-Bossier, Homeschool Helpers, Bossier Parish Community College and Centenary College. The initiative focuses on bringing all learning platforms together, from PreK through higher education, including the workforce, to ensure all people have equal access and opportunity to succeed in the STEM fields. "If all these stakeholders recognize there is a problem, where is the disconnect between each sector of the community in addressing it? Rather, the disconnect lies in the lack of a concerted effort on all stakeholders to come together. The initial meeting of stakeholders identified various needs. However, it was noted that the first need is to form a STEM ecosystem in north Louisiana if meaningful and measurable change is to occur," said Sci-Port President and CEO Ann Fumarolo. The U.S. Department of Education’s Annual Challenge Series "CTE Momentum" has returned! 🚀
This challenge series is designed to prepare high school students for rewarding careers by connecting them with real-world career pathways through hands-on, project-based learning in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs!

How It Works:
Each year, the DoE launches a new challenge focused on a topic of national importance. Submissions open between August–November and high school teams submit proposals to be judged in December. Winners are announced in February, with the next challenge topic revealed!
This year's challenge? Careers in Your Community Challenge (2026) — CTE students are invited to design career exploration solutions for their peers!

Winning teams receive prize money (e.g., $5,000 each in the Power Your Future Challenge) and recognition, while all participants gain:
- Real-world problem-solving experience.
- Connections to industry professionals.
- Confidence in career pathways
