With "feels-like" temps pushing 100° in parts of Michigan, now’s the time to give your A/C a fighting chance.
Check your filter, keep your outdoor unit clear, close blinds during peak heat, and avoid cranking the thermostat way lower than normal - it won’t cool faster, it’ll just work harder.
If your A/C is struggling, not keeping up, or quits altogether, Your Guys at Cox have got your back. (810) 797-4482
Heat Index Map 1 of 2 - Wednesday, June 10th, 2026
With the increasing temperatures and dew points at the same time, we get a higher heat index reading. Heat index is what we call the summertime "feels like" temperature. For the Lower Peninsula, the area along and south of I-96 is most-likely to see those triple digits by the afternoon hours on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026. These heat indices are subject to change, and of course will vary depending on whether or not thunderstorms and clouds limit daytime heating. Heat indices up into the 90s may make it as far north as Boyne City along the west side of the state. For the Upper Peninsula, not terrible. The western Upper Peninsula will be the bakery for Wednesday, as a few locations south of Houghton surpass 90°F for the heat index.
Why is this important? Similar to the wintertime, our bodies are like engines and prefer specific conditions to run efficiently. In the summer, when you flood the atmosphere with moisture (saturation), the result for us is sweat not being able to evaporate. We rely on sweating to stay cool, but it's a two-part process. When our "coolant", which is evaporation, cannot occur, we overheat... just like an engine would. This is how many healthy individuals become riddled with a lifetime of heat-related illnesses. Now everyone is different, but combat the heat this week by taking many breaks in the shade, and replenishing yourself with a healthy amount of water, and electrolytes.
Our first look at Thursday feels-like temperatures will be released next.
