Jenny and Laurissa met on a Students on Ice educational expedition on a ship in the Canadian Arctic in 2009. At that time Jenny was running an international organization for early career scientists (the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists) that she helped to start and Laurissa was a high school student very interested in pursuing a science career. The two got along great and kept in touch

though Facebook over the years. In 2020, Laurissa got a job as an Arctic scientist working in Winnipeg Canada and as luck would have it was driving through Wisconsin where Jenny lives now... a perfect stop off during the long move. After a few glasses of wine and some reminiscing and the idea for BeakerBabes was born! With BeakerBabes they want to show the fun side of science and promote cool research. Support these two female Arctic scientists' creative sides by purchasing something from the BeakerBabes collection. A percentage of the profits will be donated to projects supporting women in science.
