NASA’s Europa Clipper has officially launched on its journey to Jupiter’s moon Europa, where it will explore the possibility of life in its vast subsurface ocean.🌊 The mission will focus on three key objectives: determining the thickness of Europa’s icy shell and its interactions with the ocean below, studying its composition, and investigating its geology. This marks a new chapter in space exploration, with Europa Clipper set to conduct groundbreaking science in 2030!

Fall is in the air! 🍂 Last night’s supermoon was something magical — September’s Harvest Moon, bigger and brighter than usual, kicked off the season beautifully. 🌕✨ According to NASA, the moon will appear full for three days (Monday evening to Thursday morning), but the real treat is the partial lunar eclipse coming up. On Tuesday, Sept 17, right after the moon peaks at 10:44 PM ET, you’ll catch a glimpse of the top 8% of the moon in full shadow. 🌑 Don’t miss it! 🌙

Missed the solar eclipse yesterday or weren’t in the totality path?☀️Check out the link in my bio to see the highlights and full broadcast.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun, temporarily obscuring the sun’s light. This is a special astronomical event because it allows scientists to study the sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the corona, which is usually hidden by the bright light of the sun’s surface. The path of totality for this eclipse covered a wide area sweeping through Texas all the way to Maine.

About 10 hours to go before the DART mission impact!!🚀💥To recap a previous workshop, today is the day when NASA’s DART spacecraft will crash into the asteroid Dimorphos to measure its change in orbit around the bigger asteroid Didymos. This the world’s first planetary defense test mission☄️ Stay tuned on NASA Live for more updates!

This is NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope – the largest, most powerful, and most complex space science telescope ever built. The telescope’s first full-color images and spectroscopic data will be released on July 11 at 5 PM ET! This will be the first step in further helping us unfold the infrared universe.

President Joe Biden will release one of Webb's first images in a preview event at the White House in Washington. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson will provide remarks. A live stream of the event will be available on NASA TV (more details at the link in my bio). The image will be available simultaneously on NASA's website.

Backyard view of the first total lunar eclipse of the year, commonly called the Super Flower Blood Moon!🌕 Fun fact: the term “flower moon”, referring to the full moon of May comes from the blooms that appear in North America around this time of year. Other native tribes refer to it as the “frog moon” since this is the time when frogs tend to become active.

The James Webb Space Telescope is an engineering marvel that has been in progress for more than two decades with contributions from thousands of experts from 29 US states and over 14 countries. With its focus in infrared wavelengths, Webb will be able to see farther than the Hubble and Spitzer space telescopes and achieve greater resolution and sensitivity. Set to launch on Saturday, December 25 at 7:20 AM EST from French Guiana in the Ariane 5 vehicle, the telescope will embark on a 30-day, million-mile journey to the second Lagrange point (L2). This launch will be a huge milestone for NASA and its collaborators - the European Space Agency (ESA) and Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
