‼️‼️REMINDER‼️‼️

The weather station is predicting a Blizzard is coming to New England. Just as a reminder make sure your gas meters and exhaust pipes are not iced over. One of our customers had this happen after the last storm and thankfully his carbon monoxide detector went off and the fire department discovered his exhaust pipe was blocked.

Can’t share this enough. Check your outside pipes during and after a severe winter storm.

Copied from Swansea Fire Department.

‼️EXCELLENT INFORMATION ‼️

Very frigid temperatures have returned, many homes are relying more on furnaces, space heaters, fireplaces, and generators making carbon monoxide (CO) safety more important than ever.

CO is a silent killer: it’s odorless, colorless, and invisible. Protect your family by:

✅Making sure CO alarms are installed on every level of your home and near sleeping areas
✅Testing alarms monthly and replacing batteries as needed
✅Keeping vents and flues clear of snow and ice
✅Never using grills, generators, or fuel-burning devices indoors or in garages

⚠️If your CO alarm sounds, get outside to fresh air immediately and call 911.

It’s that time of the year. The heat is already on. But have you checked to make sure your carbon monoxide /smoke detectors are working ??

CARBON MONOXIDE IS A SILENT KILLER.

Fall is approaching a little sooner then some of us would like. This is just a reminder to make sure that not only your furnace is proper working order, but that first of you have carbon monoxide detector and also it in good working order.

Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 148, Section 26F1/2 states:

(a) Every dwelling, building or structure, including those owned or operated by the commonwealth, occupied in whole or in part for residential purposes, that: (1) contains fossil-fuel burning equipment including, but not limited to, a furnace, boiler, water heater, fireplace or any other apparatus, appliance or device that burns fossil fuel; or (2) incorporates enclosed parking within its structure shall be equipped by the owner with working, approved carbon monoxide alarms in conformance with the requirements of the board of fire prevention regulations; provided, however, that such requirements shall include, but not be limited to, a requirement that a landlord or superintendent shall install either approved monitored battery-powered alarms or approved electrical wiring alarms as defined by the board, as are required to make the alarms operational at the beginning of any rental period by lease or otherwise and shall maintain and, if necessary, replace batteries or such battery-operated or electric hardwired carbon monoxide alarms annually thereafter to insure their continued operability.

So, not only must your landlord install the carbon monoxide detectors, she must keep them functional.
