Finished up the design for a timber frame pavilion inspired by the Borgund Stave Church in Nowray. It will be installed directly south of the Pearson Library on the Cal Lutheran campus in Thousand Oaks, CA and will function as an outdoor classroom for many generations. We are grateful for the opportunity. Glory to God.

A very custom 7’ square table with carved wenge legs, dovetailed into the 2 1/4” thick walnut top. I also built a beautiful walnut lazy susan for the center of the table as a table this large and square, you can’t pass things to each other. The total weight of the table including the legs is +600 lbs. Wenge is underrated on JANKA hardness. Super tough on tools but beautiful! ✨

Log A-frame ALL finished up. Love the finishes the homeowner decided to go with. Also, staining the logs turned out to be a beautiful choice.

The goal was to have stout 6x6 posts but rails that fit the hands well, which ended up being 4x6 carved and shaped to be comfortable. The posts were also given some curvy lines. I began with rough sawn true dimension timbers. A not so common technique for timber framing was used to cut the joinery, line rule. I learned line rule while building log furniture but have rarely seen it used in timber framing, whereas scribe rule and square rule dominate. The posts and rails are alaskan yellow cedar, draw bored with oak pegs. AYC is more dense than western red cedar but still carries much of the rot and pest resistance. Makes for great exterior wood projects and was easy on the tools. It likes chisels and joinery. 🌲

Sneak peak at a custom all walnut cabinet job we just finished. All solid walnut faces and drawer boxes with dovetails. Notable mentions are handmade solid walnut lazy Susan rounds, dovetailed spice rack, cutting board cabinet, wine rack cabinet, and floating end shelves. It all started as a pile of rough sawn lumber. Sun up to sun down. Cedar is the tradespup on site!

It was a pleasure working on a historical Tudor home. We restored an original mahogany door while keeping a balance of historical patina. It was a challenge protecting the door from the homeowner who originally wanted to stain it one color. Several times throughout the day I asked them if they were sure, and with a final attempt, after getting the door to a point that my eye saw art value, I brought them back out to it and it finally landed, they loved it. I’m thankful we got to do an art piece rather than a standard refinish. The home is thankful as well.
