What a way to end the project cycle! πŸš€πŸš€

The NASA Student Launch Initiative team traveled to Huntsville, Alabama, to compete in the annual NASA Undergraduate Student Launch Initiative competition. Phoenix’s final flight was a success, with successful deployment of all recovery hardware and clean ejection of the nose cone for payload ex*****on.

Over the past eight months, more than 40 undergraduate students came together to design, build, and test this rocket, and seeing it perform so well in Huntsville was incredibly rewarding. The success of this launch reflects the dedication, teamwork, and countless hours our team invested throughout the year.

Shoutout to the IREC R&D team πŸš€ After a successful subscale two-stage flight, they just completed their Preliminary Design Review, marking a full year of work toward a 45k two-stage rocket for future IREC competitions. Excited to see where IREC goes next!

The International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) team recently had their first launch of the season and it is one to remember! πŸš€

We achieved our first successful in-flight deployment of airbrakes, a huge step toward higher altitude, higher speed, and more precise flights. We also tested a new separation approach, splitting the rocket into two equal sections instead of separating at the nosecone. This was a huge success and a big win for the Recovery team!

We also flew a new and improved primary flight computer, redesigned into a single modular PCB. Overall, this was one of the most technologically advanced rockets BSLI has flown. Huge shoutout to the entire team for the time, effort, and dedication. The work truly shows πŸŽ‰

After two tireless days of setup and testing, we are thrilled to share that BSLI has successfully hot fired our FAR-OUT competition engine, Valkyrie! πŸš€

We reached 70 lbf of thrust during the test. While our design target is 500 lbf, we ran low on nitrous oxide, which is actually why you can see a jet of vaporized ethanol appearing well after engine shutdown in the footage.

But here’s what matters: the test was a success where it counted. We proved the functionality of our 3D printed aluminum engine with spiral regenerative cooling channels, and look forward to full thrust hotfire at the beginning of April!

Kudos to the Liquid Rocket Systems Team! πŸŽ‰

The BSLI Liquid Rocket Systems team successfully performed a dry spin test of their kerosene electric pump today, reaching 30,000 rpm.

The pump will power their GR-COP42 regeneratively cooled rocket engine Prometheus to produce 2,500 lbf of thrust next month!
