When architects & designers come to us with bright visions (especially ones that pertain moving windows and doors) we get excited.

This living room shared a wall with the office, but the natural light from the back of the house stopped there. To make this vision happen, we:

- Removed the existing wall
- Infilled the flooring gap
- Coordinated the fabrication of this custom metal partition
- Reframed the wall
- Patched drywall to make the new opening seamless

Integrated electrical outlets don’t have to be an eyesore in the middle of a room.

As we were already redoing the floors of this home, we planned ahead to integrate access panels that blended into the grain of the new flooring. Discrete holes make it easy for wires to peak out and lay flat beneath a rug.

Some of the details we take the most pride in are the ones that no one notices until practically comes into play.

The factory settings of older homes include quirky layouts, unconventional angles, and charming moments designed for a slower pace of life.

One of the reasons we enjoy working on older homes is seeing how designers and homeowners address the idiosyncratic spaces.

Do walls need to be moved?
Should the purpose of a space change?
Would little updates make a meaningful change?
Or is it perfect how it is?

In this 1866 Victorian home, the designer and homeowner concluded that there was something inherently perfect about this attic reading nook but a few cosmetic updates to the floors, walls and trim would bring it all together.

We have high standards of what makes a wall worthy of being painted.

We won’t consider painting a wall until it’s been
- patched with multiple layers of plaster
- sanded with a fine grit sandpaper
- and primed with even brush and roller strokes

We’re firm believers in doing the prep work right the first time. That way, when all the blue tape is peeled away and drop cloths removed, the only thing you’ll be left thinking about is how beautifully the color works in your space.

The geometry of a well-designed space is undeniably satisfying.

Also satisfying is knowing that the plumbing behind the walls, the waterproofing under the shower floor, and the seal on every tile is going to last for years to come.

We don’t always make gutter systems out of duct tape, but when we do - we make sure they work.

On larger projects where we have the interior of a home partially exposed, heavy rains or winter storms can cause a great deal of damage in a very short time. And this week in Chicago we’ve had a lot of rain.

When particular situations where short-term set-ups require quick thinking, we will mobilize just as fast to do whatever it takes to stay ahead of damage and keeps projects on time.
