***HOLMES SERVICES EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT***

Today, we begin a new series of Employee Spotlights, where we showcase our valued employees and let you get a chance to get to know them (if you don't already)!

Our first Employee Spotlight shines on our longest-tenured employee, Joseph Redmon. A Smithville native and current resident, Joe is a well-known guy throughout the community and is an exceptionally hardworking employee. Joe came to Holmes Services five years ago when he learned of an opening in the company and got the opportunity to discuss it with company owner, Matt Holmes, who saw Joe as a great fit for the company.

Joe has many duties within the company, but first and foremost, he is known as our "Septic Specialist." Joe works with our septic customers to address whatever issue they may have, whether it be as simple as just needing their septic tank pumped to more complex issues like field line issues or installing a completely new system. Many times, a customer may call and not know what the issue is, but we can send Joe out to meet with the customer and he usually has answers in a short amount of time!

When he's not tackling septic issues, Joe might be doing any number of jobs for us, from hauling materials to job sites or for customers, assisting with work on a job site, cleaning up around our property, or just helping to keep the mood light with his always-upbeat attitude. Joe can definitely be considered our "Swiss Army Knife," because he helps in so many different areas.

What helps make him a great employee, an excellent customer service representative for our company, and a hardworking man on any task he's been assigned? First, Joe credits his father, who taught him the importance of having an outstanding work ethic at a very young age. Joe also says it's due to how well Holmes Services takes care of their employees.

"The atmosphere is great and it's an extremely friendly place to work," he said. I couldn't ask for a better place to work!"

Speaking of his kids, Joe spends a large part of their free time, who keep him on the go when he's not at work. "One of the great aspects of my job is, I get to be home every night with my kids, which is a huge plus," he said. "There are times when I do get called out for emergencies, but my kids are very understanding and know that's just part of my job."

As for his future, where does Joe see himself 10 years down the road? "Hopefully, still working for Holmes Services," he said, "They've been really good to me."

This project was actually one of the last ones we completed in 2025! Our crew bought in 20 loads of Clay to build up this road to aid in water diversion, then brought in rock in order to extend the roadway an additional 60 feet. We added some additional Rip Rap in the low-lying areas to further assist in water diversion, then used our skid steer's roller attachment to smooth out the roadway as we put the finishing touches on another successful project!

We continue our look at some of our recent projects for our valued customer, and this is one we are especially pleased with!

Our crew was tasked with building up the area around a new construction project. We started out by hauling some 30 loads of Clay to build up the original ground surface. Once the dirt base was near completion, we installed a 2'x2' drain basin and an 8" pipe to aid in water diversion.

Afterwards, we began constructing a rock pad around the structure, while working out the dirt slopes, which we sowed with new grass seed and covered with straw for protection. We also added additional straw matting around the perimeter for additional protection. We leveled up the pad surrounding the new building so construction can continue on it as soon as our customer is ready!

We recently completed a project focused on grading and erosion control around a new slab for a repeat customer in the Four Seasons area of DeKalb County. Our crew used a skid steer to carefully spread one load of clay and two loads of topsoil to fill in a hole beside the slab, creating a solid and even foundation.

We also backfilled along the steep side of the slab to help prevent erosion and protect the structure long-term. Everything was finished off with a smooth layer of topsoil for a clean, professional look.

Holmes Services greatly appreciates our customers!! We have been tremendously blessed to serve some of the finest folks around, and many of them have allowed us to work on multiple projects for them. We really can't say "THANK YOU" enough to everyone we've had an opportunity to work for.

We have been BUSY lately, as Spring weather has lots of people in the mood to address those outdoor projects! Over the next few days, we want to share some of the work we have done, helping our customers make their plans a reality!

Today, we are sharing a project we finished up just last week for one of our repeat customers. Our crew excavated and reshaped the hillside, creating proper slopes on both sides of the home to improve drainage and long-term stability. To reinforce the area, we placed and stacked 5 loads of rip rap, carefully positioned using our mini excavator to ensure solid hillside retention.

From there, we brought the yard back to life—spreading and Harley raking 12 loads of topsoil with our skid steer to create a smooth, level finish. We wrapped things up by sowing fresh grass seed and covering it with straw to protect and promote healthy growth.
