🏗️👷 Meet Will Elmore, our Production Planning Engineer at Banker Steel! Just 3 years into his career in the industry, Will has already made a significant impact on the way our shops and project teams work together — and he's just getting started.
As a Production Planning Engineer, Will serves as the connective tissue between our fabrication shops and our project management team. From scheduling work in the shops and identifying potential bottlenecks, to keeping project managers updated on fabrication status and ensuring the shops always have the latest schedule information, Will makes sure Banker Steel operates as a collective unit. 📋
🔧 What he loves most about his job: The communication piece. Will thrives on being in the mix, finding solutions that work for everyone, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. For him, keeping all the moving parts aligned is exactly what he's built for.
🏆 Proudest accomplishments at Banker Steel: Will points to two big wins. First, a project, where he developed a shop-by-shop schedule for 1,416 trusses, detailing exactly what each shop should cut, fabricate, and paint each week. The shops delivered, and not a single date was missed. Second, on a more internal level, Will has played a key role in strengthening how Banker Steel tracks and reports on progress across the organization. Through his efforts, internal reporting and weekly backlogs are now a consistent, reliable part of how we forecast and operate across both Banker Steel and NYCC. 💪
💡 What keeps him motivated? The people and the work itself. As Will puts it, "Erecting national landmarks is just the icing on the cake." Getting to watch something go from a plan on paper to a real structure standing in the world, in real time, never gets old.
🔩 Advice for those just starting out: "Ask questions! Don't be afraid of looking dumb, because you don't know until you know. Jump in — you don't have to wait to be tasked with something to start helping. We are all on the same team working towards the same goal."
👨👩👧👦 Outside of work: Will is a Houston, TX native and a proud family man — married with two kids (almost 5 and 2). A retired college athlete, he now cheers on his Houston and LSU teams from the sidelines. And here's a fun fact: before stepping into the steel industry, Will was a professionally trained chef who ran restaurants for 7 years. Safe to say he brings the same attention to detail to the shop floor as he did to the kitchen! 🍴
