Storm prep reminder — keep your furnace ready for the winter storm:

Most important: check and replace/clean your furnace filter. Keep extra filters on hand (correct size/type).

Clear snow and ice from flue and intake pipes and from outdoor furnace/heat‑pump units; maintain a 2–3 ft clearance and keep a clear path to exterior vents, meters, and the outdoor unit for service access.

Make sure all supply registers are open and unblocked.

If your thermostat uses batteries, confirm they’re fresh and keep spares on hand.

Test smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors now, replace batteries if needed, and ensure you have the appropriate number of working CO detectors placed near sleeping areas.

Have a backup heat plan: safe portable space heater (follow manufacturer safety guidelines), extra blankets, and a designated warm room.

Avoid frequent large thermostat setbacks in extreme cold to reduce equipment stress. Keep your thermostat on a comfortable temperature.

Know where and how to shut off gas and power to your furnace in an emergency.

Keep a flashlight, fresh batteries, bottled water, and nonperishable food accessible.

If you have a boiler, bleed radiators and check system pressure.

If you use a generator, follow CO safety rules and proper connection procedures — never run a generator indoors.

Storms can make driving hazardous and delay HVAC technicians for all companies. If you need help, call us 24/7 at (304) 366-4441. We will return calls to the best of our ability.
