Went on a call yesterday, older r22 system...
Lady said they just had a local company out the day before and they "fixed" the unit, but now it's not working and they smell a burning smell....
Opened the system, it's old, and should be replaced, but lady is on oxygen, so I dove in to help out. What I found, ladies and gents, was a blower motor with a brand spanking new capacitor and upon further visual inspection I could see the insulation on the windings were melted, hence the burning smell.....
Changed the motor, capacitor and also found the blower relay had fried as well, so new relay. BAM, ancient unit is back alive. But here's the kicker...
The system was, of course low on refrigerant. They other guys had said the same thing. They offered to "top it off" @ $600 a pound!!!!
$600 A POUND FOR R22!!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
From a local company that prides themselves on fair pricing, honest diagnosis, and REAL TECHS.
I offered a drop in replacement refrigerant at an extreme fraction of the cost of what they are charging and they didn't even offer any alternatives.
They declined, and now wish to move forward with a total system replacement.
Honest work, honest pricing gets life long clients.
Rushed diagnostics and price gouging gets you lost customers.....
This makes new lifelong client number 4 from second opinions just from this one company's callbacks.
