A lot of RV buyers assume that once they take ownership, their only option for repairs is going back to the dealer they bought it from.
That’s not really how it works.

In reality, you usually have three layers of support available after purchase:

1. Manufacturer Warranty
Most major components (appliances, frames, slides, and electrical systems) are covered directly by the manufacturer for a set period. That means you’re not always dependent on the dealership for answers or approval.

2. Component Manufacturers
This is the part most people don’t realize. Your RV is made up of dozens of individual systems: water heaters, refrigerators, converters, awnings, etc.

In many cases, those companies will talk directly to you about troubleshooting or warranty replacement.

I recently ran into this myself after buying our new travel trailer. A week in, we had a component failure. Instead of going through a long back-and-forth, I contacted the part manufacturer directly and quickly got clarity and next steps.

3. Local RV Service Providers
You are not locked into the selling dealer for repairs. Many certified mobile techs and independent shops can perform warranty-authorized work depending on the manufacturer.

The takeaway is this:

Owning an RV isn’t a “one door” system where everything flows back through the dealer you bought from.

It’s more like a network; knowing and understanding how to navigate that network can save you time, frustration, and a lot of unnecessary stress.

We see a lot of frustration in inspections that actually comes from misunderstanding this system, not from the RV itself.
The more you understand how support actually works, the more confident you are after the purchase, not just before it.

A customer asked me something the other day that made me stop for a second:

“Am I married to this RV dealer now?”

It was said half jokingly… but I knew exactly what they meant.

What they were really asking was:

“Am I stuck with this decision, this dealer, and whatever happens next?”

And honestly, a lot of RV buyers have felt that way at some point.
The moment you sign the paperwork, it can start to feel like you’ve entered a long-term relationship you didn’t fully interview for.

But here’s the truth:
You’re not married to the dealer.
You’re not locked into silence.
And you still have options when things don’t feel right.

This is one of the reasons we do independent inspections before purchase, not after. It’s not about calling anyone out. It’s about making sure you don’t end up in a situation where you’re guessing instead of knowing.

Curious how others feel about this:

Have you ever felt “stuck” with an RV dealer after a purchase, or was your experience completely different?

A recent situation brought up something worth talking about.

A dealer requested a copy of our full RV inspection report after a customer used our services.

We understand why this request comes up. Dealers want clarity, context, and sometimes reassurance about findings that may impact a sale. That part is reasonable.

But here’s where the line matters:

Our inspection reports are created for the customer who hired us. Not the seller. Not the dealership.

That independence is the entire point.

A third-party inspection only works if it stays truly third-party. Once reports become shareable “by default,” the pressure on inspectors shifts, and so does the integrity of the process. That’s not a direction we’re willing to go.

We are not in the business of influencing negotiations on either side. We are in the business of documenting conditions clearly, accurately, and without bias so buyers can make informed decisions.

That means:

The report belongs to the paying client
The findings are shared with them directly
Any decision to disclose it further is theirs, not ours

We respect dealers who maintain professional standards and understand the role independent inspections play in a healthy transaction; Most do.

But we also have a responsibility to protect the trust built with our clients. Releasing full reports to outside parties would compromise that trust and the integrity of the inspection itself.

Transparency matters, but so does independence. It might be our opinion, only, but this independence is what makes the report valuable in the first place.

RV Industry Shift: Refrigerators Are Changing

Here’s What You Need to Know

We’re starting to see a major shift in RV refrigeration, and it’s something every buyer (and current owner) should be aware of.

Two big developments:
• Norcold: long known for propane/120V “absorption” refrigerators; Filed for bankruptcy in 2025, and the future of that style of fridge is uncertain.

• Dometic: while still active, has been restructuring product lines, and we’re seeing fewer traditional options with more focus on newer technology

What does that mean in the real world?

The industry is moving toward 12V compressor refrigerators

These newer units:
Cool faster and more consistently
Don’t require the RV to be level
Eliminate propane-related fire risks
Rely heavily on your battery and charging system

But there’s a tradeoff…

Electrical demand becomes critical

If the battery system, converter, or solar setup isn’t up to par, performance can suffer quickly.

What we’re seeing during inspections:

• More 12V compressor fridges in newer units
• Older absorption fridges are becoming harder to replace
• Increased importance of evaluating the RV’s electrical system as a whole.

If you’re buying an RV right now, this isn’t just a “feature”; it’s a system that needs to be evaluated properly.

That’s exactly where an inspection makes a difference.

If you have questions about a specific unit or refrigerator setup, feel free to reach out.

Not every RV inspection ends with a purchase, and that’s not a bad thing. Not every outcome is what everyone hoped for, and we understand that.

Our job isn’t to “pass” or “fail” an RV. It’s to document what’s there so the buyer can make an informed decision.

Sometimes that information supports the sale.
Sometimes it leads to more questions.
And sometimes it changes the direction entirely.

We understand that can be disappointing in the moment. But having a clear picture before signing on the dotted line is always better than discovering issues later.

Every inspection follows a documented process. We focus on separating fact from opinion; clearly showing what an issue is and where it exists. We’re also always open to discussing what those findings mean for a customer today and down the road.

At the end of the day, the report provides the facts, but the decision is always the customer’s.

We treat every RV inspection like it’s our own purchase decision, because that’s the level of clarity every buyer deserves.

Adventure On!

Your RV is trying to tell you something.

That “weird smell” isn’t just annoying or embarrassing; it’s often your RV giving you a clue about something important:

Musty or damp smell
Usually points to water intrusion. This could be a small leak hiding behind a wall or under flooring; something that can turn into major damage if left alone.

Rotten egg smell
Often tied to a battery issue, especially with lead-acid batteries, is off-gassing. This isn’t just unpleasant; it can be a safety concern.

Sewer or waste smell
Typically a venting or seal problem. It might be as simple as a dry P-trap…or something more involved with the waste system.

Smells are one of the earliest warning signs we come across during inspections. Catching them early can mean the difference between a simple fix and a costly repair.

If something doesn’t smell right, it’s worth paying attention to.

RV Myth vs. Reality: “Dual Pane Windows = Better Insulation”

We’ve been inspecting a lot of newer units lately (especially models like the Brinkley Z 3420), and one question keeps coming up: Are dual-pane windows really worth it?

MYTH: Dual-pane windows dramatically improve insulation in an RV.
REALITY: They help, but not nearly as much as most people think.

In many RVs, “dual pane” windows are simply two panes of glass with a small air gap. It would be fair to claim that the versions being used for RVs are not gas-filled, when their counterparts for sticks and bricks are.

They do provide:

Some insulation improvement
Reduced condensation
Better noise control

But when it comes to keeping your RV cool in the summer?

Sunlight through the glass is the bigger problem. What actually makes a bigger difference:

Park strategically based on sun exposure.
Reflective window coverings
High-quality window tint (Ceramic)

In real-world conditions, managing sunlight often has MORE impact than upgrading to dual-pane windows alone.

Bottom line:
Dual-pane windows are a nice upgrade, but they’re not a magic fix for temperature control.

If you’re buying an RV, it’s important to understand what features actually improve comfort, and which ones are mostly marketing.

Have questions about RV construction or features? That’s exactly what we’re here for.
