A Longs outdoor unit was installed with no service disconnect within sight of the equipment. Against code, against basic safety — and the inspector signed off on it. We installed a code-compliant disconnect, re-pulled the whip, and brought the wiring up to spec. Government doesn't catch bad work. We do.

Our most thorough inspector showed up uninvited. She found three things wrong with the supply vent and one thing wrong with us for being slow with the treats. Jokes aside, most homeowners on the Grand Strand have never had anyone actually look at their ductwork, vents, or attic airflow after the install. Brand-new construction in Ocean Isle Beach, and an oversized AC was trying to muscle through a blazing-hot attic. The real problem was up there — no ventilation, no radiant barrier, no plan. An attic fan would have been cheaper and actually solved it. Oversizing the equipment just hides a building problem behind a bigger power bill. New construction isn't the same as done correctly.

Gas furnace installs involve more than just HVAC work. The gas lines, flue venting, and combustion air supply all have to be done to code. You can see the yellow gas piping, the PVC flue vent running up through the roof, and the spray foam sealing around the ductwork connection.

Gas furnaces are less common in our area than heat pumps, but some homes are set up for gas heat and it can be a good option, especially for homeowners who want fast, consistent warmth during cold snaps.

Installed by Comfort Masters: New Ruud air handler installed in the attic with a dedicated disconnect switch.

You can see the disconnect box mounted on the rafter above the unit. This allows a technician to safely shut off power to the air handler during maintenance or repairs without having to go back to the breaker panel. It’s a code requirement and a safety measure that should always be part of a proper install.

The ductwork connections are sealed with spray foam to prevent conditioned air from leaking into the attic. In our coastal climate, even small duct leaks can waste energy and let moisture into places it shouldn’t be.
