Best pool builder I’ve seen in my 45 yrs of coping and tile installation: Hap Johnson Pools in Claremont CA

Late 1970’s
He only built in the city of Claremont CA

Hap Johnson Pools - picture an old guy like George Burns without the cigar. Thinking he was born around 1900.

Two Weeks - your pool was built in 2 weeks. Start to finish.

Monday - dig pool
Tuesday - steel pool
Wednesday - plumb pool
Thursday - Gunite pool
Friday - I came in and installed white coping and tile.
Saturday or Monday - concrete decks
Block walls built in between
Equipment set in between
Plaster and fill pool by Friday the 14th day. I never saw him miss on the schedule.

His pools were generally free form. No RBB. 125’ per + with attached spa. Spa walls were long banana shape 15’+

As soon as you were done he wrote a check and confirmed schedule for the following week

He had people on waiting list. Real straight shooter. Haven’t seen anyone like him since.

Second best pool builder. Owner Builder - Mom/housewife. Organized, listened to the sub contractors. Paid upon completion.

Here’s Hap Johnson’s last pool built. 1978. In Claremont Ca. I set the coping and tile. I recently visited this pool. 43 yrs old and still going.
