Cary Construction turned 3 years old today. I couldn’t think of a better way to share that than with a preview of our second new build we finished this past summer.
This home was designed 100% in house for a client looking to bring some western cabin vibes back to the east coast. The interior features 9’ ceilings and a 26’ tall vaulted space housing the spiral staircase with views of the ocean. The window design was meant to maximize the view, and bring in natural light. In the winter months, the solar gain from the southerly exposure will really take the chill off the winter blues.
In construction, we were able to use 100% Maine grown and milled wood for all framing, exterior vertical pine cladding, and all insulation from Timber HP. We like to implement waste mitigation where ever possible. For nearly all the interior trim we were able to reclaim old pine boards from a demo job and save them from the furnace.
The design of this 1200sqf home was meant to accommodate expansion in the future. The carport is ready to be framed in, insulated and turned into an extra 400sqf living space. we also framed the home so one of the large windows on the side can be removed and allow for a breezeway to connect this home to a new structure.
From the unique building site, design, and resource management, this home is the first in a long line as we continue to grow and serve the greater Portland area with fine craftsmanship.
