🥵 East Texas, we’re at that point in the summer…
With temperatures 103°+ for the foreseeable forecast, your A/C is being pushed about as hard as it can be. During the hottest part of the afternoon, even a properly sized and properly operating system may struggle to maintain your normal thermostat setting.
A few things you can do to help:
• Don’t crank the thermostat way down. Setting it to 65° won’t make the house cool any faster—it just makes the system run continuously.
• Keep your thermostat at a reasonable, steady temperature. Avoid big temperature setbacks during the day.
• Change/check your air filter. Restricted airflow makes an already hard-working system work even harder.
• Keep blinds and curtains closed, especially on west-facing windows during the afternoon.
• Limit heat-producing appliances like ovens and dryers during the hottest part of the day.
• Make sure outdoor units are clear of grass, weeds, leaves and other debris.
• Keep exterior doors closed as much as possible.
And remember: if it’s 103–105° outside and your house creeps up a couple degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon, that doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong with your A/C.
