Fall sweeping is more than picking up leaves.

As the season changes, streets and parking areas start collecting leaves, dirt, sediment, and other debris, often faster than you’d expect. Left sitting along curbs, that material can find its way into storm drains when the rain comes.

A good paving job starts before the new asphalt ever goes down.

Dirt, loose aggregate, dust, and leftover material on the surface can get in the way of the work that follows. That is why sweeping is such an important part of the process.

A clean surface gives paving crews a better place to start. It clears away the material that does not belong there and helps keep the job moving.

It is easy to overlook sweeping when the fresh pavement gets all the attention. But the work underneath matters too.

Before the asphalt goes down, make sure the surface is ready.

We've got an update about our K9s For Warriors service dog, or should I now say dogs!

You'll remember Aardy, the service dog our Members sponsored through K9s For Warriors after raising over $30,000 together. Well, life had a little twist in store.

Because of a minor medical issue, our original Aardy won't be completing the service dog program, but don't worry, this story has a happy ending. He's joining the Station Dog Program, where he'll bring comfort and emotional support to first responders at police and fire departments. Those firefighters and officers are lucky to have him! 🚒👮

And the pack is growing, because say hello to Aardy 2.0! 🎉 This handsome guy is already in training and, if all goes well, will be paired with his Warrior Veteran by the end of October.

Thanks to our amazing Members, two dogs are now on their way to changing lives. That's a win any way you look at it. Welcome, Aardy 2.0! 🐾

Clean Streets = Cleaner Waters

What gets left on the street doesn’t always stay there.

Dirt, sediment, leaves, litter, and other debris can get picked up by the next storm and carried into storm drains and local waterways. That’s why street sweeping is about more than keeping roads looking clean.

Removing that material before the rain reaches it is a practical way for communities to help reduce what enters the stormwater system.

Clean streets. Cleaner water. It really is connected.
