The existing deck and stairs were removed in preparation for the new construction. During demolition, it was discovered that the home’s rim joist was severely deteriorated due to the absence of proper flashing. As a result, the compromised rim joist was replaced to restore structural integrity. It was also noted that the exterior door had been misaligned for some time, which was caused by the structural failure of the rotted rim joist allowing the framing to settle. The existing door was removed and replaced with a new unit to ensure proper operation and fit.
New support footings were excavated and installed to properly support the structure. The deck was then framed and constructed to code, including proper allowances for the new roof structure. The finished deck features gray composite decking paired with black composite railing and posts for a clean, modern appearance.
The primary beam was wrapped in metal for long-term protection, and a corrugated steel roofing system was installed. Corrugated steel was also utilized for the soffit and siding to maintain a cohesive design. Six recessed can lights were installed in the soffit to provide adequate lighting and enhance the space’s functionality. The staircase was reframed to a more functional width, improving both safety and usability.
Additionally, the customer’s electrical panel was upgraded to support the new installations and ensure the system meets current standards. A seamless black gutter system was installed to match the overall aesthetic.
The project was completed with attention to detail and durability, and the customer was highly satisfied with the final result.
