We are coming across this a lot these days- homeowners changing out their own capacitors etc. Some complete the task. Others do not. We arrived to find this one mislabeled, wired incorrectly and not secured with a strap. We’ve also seen homeowners order the wrong sizes and install them. This can absolutely destroy the motors in your Ac and cause a much bigger problem than you started with. If you feel comfortable then go for it, but if you’re hesitant at all- don’t. There are so many other things that we check out when we do any service call, we don’t just change this part and leave. The benefits of having us come out and take care of it definitely outweigh the cost of doing it wrong.

One thing about HVAC- it doesn’t matter how long you do it, you are never done running into things you’ve never seen before. This small tree was allowed to grow next to the AC long enough for the tree to basically grow right around the refrigerant (Freon) lines. Definitely a reminder to keep your Ac free and clear around the sides and over the top! Trim bushes, weeds, trees etc and keep it clear! Do not let a tree “become one” with your Ac!

Can’t make this stuff up! In the middle of a repair the dog came over to reclaim his property! There is not a warranty on the planet that will cover your dog doing this to your Ac. Not a manufacturer, homeowner insurance or a home warranty can save you on this one. You could put something around it but it needs to be a couple of feet away on the sides and generally nothing over the top to restrict airflow. The acidic damage is pretty much irreversible. What a way to end the day- Happy 4th everyone! Be safe this weekend! F&I

Reminder to check those filters before it gets super hot! This is an example of what happens to your indoor equipment if the filter is neglected or not in place properly and held firm when the indoor fan comes on. It gets trapped in the equipment, makes the Ac run really hard and not cool well, and drives up that PG&E bill!

Just a reminder, do not let your dogs use your Ac like a fire hydrant! The acid in the urine will destroy the ac and cause coil leaks resulting in loss of refrigerant/freon. Not a cheap fix and usually ends in replacement! If you must, you can put something around it but it would need to be a couple feet away all the way around and we would not recommend anything over the top of it. It might actually be cheaper to buy them a fire hydrant and put it somewhere in the yard rather than the system replacement option.
