Waikīkī is about to get very busy — in the best possible way. 🌺

Duke's OceanFest returns August 14–24, honoring Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, the waterman who carried aloha further than anyone. The Opening Ceremony is Friday the 14th at the Duke statue (procession at 4:45, ceremony at 5), and it's open to everyone. Then it's ten days of longboarding, the Waikīkī Ocean Mile Swim, keiki surf, canoe racing with our Wounded Warriors, even the surf dogs — right through Duke's sunrise birthday lei draping on the 24th.

What we love about OceanFest is that it isn't a tourist show. It's the community showing up for each other, the way Duke did.

Showing up for each other is on a lot of minds right now. The average Oʻahu electric bill is up about $60 a month compared to last summer — roughly 30% — because oil prices drive roughly half of what we all pay HECO (Honolulu Civil Beat, July 30). Maui families are feeling about 27% of the same squeeze.

We can't do much about the price of a barrel of oil. But we can help a neighbor put the one resource Hawaiʻi has in abundance to work on their own roof.

We've been a local, family-owned solar company since 2007, based right here in Waipahu, serving Oahu and Maui. This week, though, we're mostly just going to the beach. 🤙

See you at the statue on Friday?

Big news for Hawaii homeowners: the state's 35% solar tax credit is being capped — but 2026 installs are protected. 🌺

☀️ New state law (Act 24) caps the credit at $40M/year starting 2027 — and ends it by 2030
🛡️ Governor Green's executive order exempts every system placed in service in 2026
💰 That means the full 35% state credit (up to $5,000) is still yours this year
⚡ Meanwhile, HECO rates just hit a record 46.6¢/kWh — the highest in the nation
🔋 Stack it with BYOD Plus: $2,000 per battery ($4,000 for qualifying households)

A typical install takes 2–4 months from signed agreement to permission to operate — so the smart move is starting now, not in December. Our local Waipahu team handles the permits, HECO interconnection, and every credit you qualify for.

"Now that the federal solar tax credit is gone, is going solar in Hawaiʻi even worth it anymore?" 🤔

It's the question we hear most this year — so here's a straight answer: yes, and maybe more here than anywhere else in the country.

Here's the honest breakdown:
- The 30% federal credit did end on December 31, 2025. That part is true.
- But Hawaiʻi's own state solar tax credit is still here — 35% of your system cost, up to $5,000.
- And this is the big one: Hawaiʻi has the highest electricity rates in the nation, around 42¢ per kWh. That's why a typical home system here pays for itself in roughly 4–6 years, versus 8–12 on the mainland.

In other words, the math that makes solar work in Hawaiʻi was never really about the federal credit — it's about our sky-high power bills. Pair panels with a battery (smart, now that full net metering has ended), and you're using your own clean power in the evening instead of buying HECO's most expensive electricity.

The right setup depends on your roof, your usage, and your island. That's where a local team earns its keep — we've been doing this on Oahu and Maui since 2007. Solar. Simplified.

"The team was friendly and knowledgeable, and they made the whole process easy and stress-free. Highly recommend!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is exactly what we hope every homeowner feels. Going solar can sound complicated — permits, panels, HECO, batteries, tax credits — and part of our job is to take all of that off your plate.

For this Oahu family, that meant clear answers, no pressure, and a team that treated their home like our own. That's the whole idea behind "Solar. Simplified." — we handle the complicated parts so you can just enjoy the savings.

It's the kind of neighborly care we've built our name on since 2007, as a local, family-owned company serving Oahu and Maui. 🌺

Mahalo to this ohana for trusting us — and for the kind words.

There's a sound that means summer in Hawaiʻi — and this week, it's floating across Waikīkī. 🎶

The ʻUkulele Festival of Hawaiʻi is back, with the free main concert at Kapiʻolani Park on Sunday, July 12. It's the largest ʻukulele festival in the world, and it started with a simple idea: share a little aloha through music. Bring a beach mat, bring the keiki, and let the kids' orchestra steal your heart.

We love weeks like this — the whole island out together, celebrating the things that make home, home.

Here's the little connection we can't help but notice: the same summer sun that packs that park is the most abundant, free resource our islands have. All summer long it's pouring down on Oahu and Maui rooftops — and for a growing number of local families, it's quietly turning into lower electric bills instead of just heat.

We've been a local, family-owned solar company since 2007, right here in Waipahu, serving Oahu and Maui. This week, we're just celebrating alongside our neighbors. 🌴

Headed to the festival Sunday? Come say aloha.

☀️ The 30% federal solar tax credit ended in 2025 — but here in Hawai'i, going solar in 2026 still pays off. Here's why 🌺

💰 Hawai'i's state RETITC credit still gives 35% back, up to $5,000 per system
⚡ We pay ~42¢/kWh — the highest power rates in the country, so every panel works harder here
📉 Starting 2027 a $40M statewide cap hits the state credit — 2026 installs are exempt, so this is the window
🔋 HECO's BYOD Plus pays $400/kW ($800/kW for qualifying households) to add a battery
🏝️ Nearly half of Oahu & Maui single-family homes already have rooftop solar

"Wait — does Hawaiʻi still have net metering?" 🤔

It's the question we hear most these days, so let's clear it up.

Traditional full-retail net metering — where every kilowatt you sent to the grid counted like a credit at full price — is no longer open to new customers in Hawaiʻi. HECO has moved to its Smart Renewable Energy programs, where the energy you export is credited at set rates that change by time of day, plus battery programs (like BYOD) that reward you for storing your own power.

Here's the plain-English version: the new programs reward homes that store solar in a battery and use it in the evening, rather than sending it all to the grid during the day. For many Oahu and Maui families, that means a solar + battery system now makes more sense than panels alone.

The details matter, and they depend on your roof, your usage, and your island. That's exactly where a local team earns its keep — we've been navigating Hawaiʻi's solar programs since 2007, so you don't have to decode them on your own. ☀️

Have a net-metering question? Drop it in the comments or DM us — we'll give you a straight answer.

"If I go solar in Hawaii, what happens to the extra energy my panels produce?"

Great question — and it's one we answer almost every day. Here's the short version:
In Hawaii, when your solar panels produce more electricity than your home is using, that excess energy flows back into the grid through a program called net energy metering (NEM). Hawaiian Electric (HECO) then gives you a credit on your bill for that energy — so your meter essentially runs backwards.

Here's what makes Hawaii unique: with electricity costing around 42¢/kWh — the highest in the country — every kilowatt-hour your system produces is worth significantly more here than on the mainland. That's why solar math in Hawaii is so compelling.
A few things worth knowing:

Hawaii's NEM program has evolved over the years, so if you've heard older information, it may be outdated.

Pairing solar with battery storage (like Tesla Powerwall) lets you store excess energy instead of exporting it — which can be even more valuable.

The right system size matters — we design every installation to match your actual home usage and goals.

We've been navigating Hawaii's unique grid and utility programs since 2007, and we know these rules inside and out. Have a question about net metering or how solar would work for your specific home on Oʻahu or Maui? Drop it in the comments or send us a message — we genuinely love talking through this stuff. ☀️🌺

"They did a great job uninstalling and reinstalling our PV and solar water heating systems while our home was being reroofed — exceptionally responsive and professional the whole way through." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We love this one, because it speaks to a part of our job people don't always think about. Going solar isn't only about day one — it's about every roof repair, every upgrade, and every year after.

When this Oahu family needed their roof redone, they needed a solar team who could carefully remove the system, protect it, and get everything producing again without a hitch. That's exactly the kind of local, long-term care we've built our name on since 2007.

Mahalo to this ohana for trusting us — and for the kind words. 🌺

"Our new system actually produces 150% of our current electric bill — and Zach did an amazing job getting everything up and running."
Reading reviews like this never gets old. 🌟

When this Oʻahu homeowner came to us, they had an older system that was only partially reducing their HECO bill. We upgraded them to a full solar system with Tesla battery backup — and the results have been incredible.

That's what nearly 20 years of local experience looks like. We know Hawaii's homes, Hawaii's grid, and Hawaii's sunshine patterns. We're not a mainland company flying in crews — we're your neighbors, and we take that seriously.

Ready to join our ohana of happy solar homeowners on Oʻahu and Maui? We'd love to show you what's possible for your home. Drop us a message or give us a call. 🤙☀️
