Why isn’t it 50/50? 🤔

In March 2026, 57.3% of the samples we tested came back female.

We get asked about this from time to time, and the short answer is: most of what we test is regular seed stock, but feminized plants still make their way into the data. In larger grows, it is pretty common for multiple seed packs to get planted at once, with one of them being feminized, and the person submitting samples may not know which is which. So a few feminized plants get tested along with the regs, and that nudges the ratio upward.

We also see this with bag seeds. A lot of newer growers send those in, and bag seeds are usually the result of self-pollination, which means they are often female.

And cannabis is not unusual here. Other dioecious plant species do not always land at a perfect 50/50 split either. S*x ratios can shift based on biology, stress, and survivorship.

For reference, the last time we shared this data was about a year ago, and that month came in at 60.96% female. Month to month, the variation is usually there, but it is not dramatic.

5 things every grower should know about cannabis s*x testing:

1. You can test seedlings at just 7 days old.
No need to wait weeks for pre-flowers. DNA has the answers from the start.

2. S*x tests target the Y chromosome.
Males carry XY. Females carry XX. Y = Male.

3. Results in days, not weeks.
Good labs can turn results in 3-5 business days. Ours does it in 1-2.
