We have received dozens of calls from homeowners frustrated with their a/c’s limited capacity to keep up with the heat outside.
“My AC is not working properly “ or “It’s set on 72 and its 76 in here”.

All I can say is “Guys don't panic”
and the reason why your air conditioner can’t keep up with the 100-degree heat wave will not make you happy. It simply is NOT designed to..
Your a/c is not designed for 100 degrees. There is likely nothing wrong with your system. While it seems abnormal for your house to be 77 degrees when it’s set for 71, the sustained high temperature outside is also abnormal. Your a/c is sized for what the temperature is most likely to be in the summer with the high 80’s to low 90’s being the norm for our area. Your a/c is designed to cool a maximum of 20 degrees from the outside temperature. Pretty simple math: if it’s 100 outside and your a/c is getting to 80 or below – it is doing its job.

However, You can make some changes to your home & some additions to your cooling system.
1) UV-blocking tint or black out curtains can be added to windows
2) stay away from darker colors when painting your home
3) get your insulation tested
4) Have a blower door test done on your home which depresurizes your home revealing the location of air leaks.
4) add a ductless mini-split unit to your living room or bedroom.

Here in Louisiana we all know heat and we definitely know humidity 😡and together they can be very dangerous:
When temperatures spike to 100 degrees or higher, you have to be ready. Not only does it get extremely uncomfortable, but if you get too hot, you can risk dehydration or even heat stroke.
