HOMEOWNER TIP 💧

After your concrete is poured, one of the best things you can do is keep it lightly watered during the curing process. A lot of people think concrete simply “dries,” but it actually gains strength by curing slowly over time.

On hot or windy days especially, concrete can dry too fast at the surface, which may lead to shrinkage cracks and weaker concrete long term. Lightly misting it with water helps it cure more evenly and hold moisture while it gains strength.

A little watering over the first few days can go a long way toward helping your new concrete last for years to come. 👌

Another local driveway replacement completed from start to finish. The original driveway had multiple large cracks, surface wear, and failing sections throughout, so we removed everything and started fresh with proper base preparation before the new pour.

For this project, we used fiber reinforcement throughout the concrete mix to help improve durability and reduce the chance of shrinkage cracking over time — especially important with Michigan weather conditions and freeze/thaw cycles.

Once the concrete was finished, we also applied a cure and seal to help protect the surface and support the curing process as the concrete gains strength.

Clean, durable, and built to last. Huge transformation on this one. 💪

One of the most overlooked parts of concrete work is what happens AFTER the pour.

Curing and sealing play a huge role in the strength, durability, and lifespan of concrete. Fresh concrete needs time and moisture to properly cure. If it dries too quickly, it can lead to surface cracking, reduced strength, scaling, and premature wear over time.

Proper curing helps:
• Increase overall strength
• Reduce cracking and shrinkage
• Improve surface durability
• Help concrete handle freeze/thaw cycles better

Sealing is just as important, especially in Michigan where concrete is constantly exposed to moisture, salt, oil, and harsh weather changes. A quality sealer helps protect the surface from water pe*******on, staining, surface deterioration, and long-term damage caused by freeze/thaw cycles.

Concrete is a long-term investment, and the finishing and protection process matters just as much as the installation itself.

Concrete isn’t just concrete — the right additives can completely change the strength, durability, finish, and performance of your project. 🔥

At Montella Cement, we offer multiple concrete additive options depending on the job and conditions, including:

✔️ Fiber Mesh Reinforcement – Helps reduce cracking and adds durability
✔️ Air Entraining Additives – Better freeze/thaw protection for Michigan weather
✔️ Accelerators – Speeds up cure time in colder temperatures
✔️ Retarders – Slows the set time during hot weather pours
✔️ Water Reducers – Improves workability without weakening the mix
✔️ Integral Color – Custom color mixed directly into the concrete
✔️ Sealers & Surface Protection – Added durability and long-term protection

Every project is different, which is why we don’t believe in “one mix fits all.” We tailor the concrete to fit the job so you get the best possible final product. 💪

Quality materials + proper installation = concrete that lasts.

Small project, same attention to detail. 💪

For this pour, we used fiber mesh reinforcement throughout the concrete to help increase durability and reduce the risk of cracking over time. Even on smaller jobs, using the right materials makes all the difference in the final product.

Clean work. Solid prep. Built to last. 🔥
