A client needed some help with their antenna, so up I went. Every rung I climbed, that thing swayed a little more.

Let’s just say there’s a reason I picked concrete for a living. It stays on the ground. 😂

💡 Tip: Plows and concrete don't mix well.�
If your property gets plowed this winter, your concrete is about to take a beating.�
🔹 Blades chip the joints. A steel plow blade catches joints and edges and chips them out, pass after pass.
�🔹 Mark your edges. Stake the edges of walks, pads, and approaches before the first snow so the plow crew can see them.
�🔹 Talk to your plow crew. Ask about a raised blade or a rubber edge when they're clearing concrete. It's a small change that saves a lot of damage.�
Protect the concrete before the snow does the damage.�

Proud to share that our Executive Director, Jeremile Alexander, is the first feature in the Eugene and Beverly Stradwick Heritage Foundation's new "Meet Our Strategic Partners" series.

EBSHF was founded by Terrill Gosa, born and raised right here in East Wheeling, and named after his grand parents, Eugene and Beverly Stradwick. The Foundation is doing work this city has needed for a long time: researching, preserving and telling the history of Black life in Wheeling and the Upper Ohio Valley. That includes the churches, schools, businesses and families of East Wheeling that helped build this city.

That's not just Black history. That's Wheeling history.

💡 Industrial tip: Don't load it too soon.

On industrial jobs, there's always pressure to get equipment back on the slab fast.
But concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks after it's poured. Around seven days in, it's only part of the way there.

Put trucks, forklifts, or heavy equipment on a young slab and you can crack it or crush the edges for good. That's a repair you'll be living with for years.

The fix is planning. Build the cure time into your schedule from the start, so nobody's tempted to rush it when the deadline gets tight.

A few extra days now beats a slab that fails under load.

Clogged gutters overflow onto your slab, and downspouts that dump at the edge wash out the base underneath. Once the base is gone, the edge sinks and cracks, even on good concrete. Clean the gutters, add a downspout extension, and save the slab.

Before and after on an industrial project we just wrapped up. 🏗️

Two men. Four days. Me and my nephew.

This is a scale for weighing commercial trucks at a working industrial site. It's an important piece of their operation, since trucks get weighed here to keep production and business moving. That meant it had to be built right, and it had to be done on time.

It was a challenging job in a few spots. Once the concrete arrives, the clock starts, and we had to move fast and precisely to get everything formed and finished before it set. There's no do-over on a pour like that.

Two of us still got it done in four days, before the deadline.

Big thanks to my nephew for hanging in there and putting in the work. Couldn't have done it without him. 💪
