Thom Duncan Avionics Relocates to Wi******er Municipal Airport
Company expands operations with 8,000-square-foot hangar
WI******ER, TN—Sept. 2, 2025—Thom Duncan Avionics, a leading aircraft avionics service company and FAA-certified repair station, has officially moved its operations into an 8,000-square-foot hangar at Wi******er Municipal Airport (KBGF). The new space, located at 574 Aviation Dr, Wi******er, TN, provides expanded capacity to serve more aircraft simultaneously and reduce turnaround times.
The move represents a major milestone for the company, which was founded in 2018 by president and owner Thom Duncan. The opportunity arose when the long-utilized hangar—previously operated by well-known aircraft mechanic Jon Foote until his passing in 2024—became available.
As an FAA Part 145 repair station, Thom Duncan Avionics operates under one of the highest levels of certification in aviation maintenance. Part 145 repair stations are approved and closely regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration, requiring rigorous inspections, documented quality control systems, highly trained personnel, and adherence to strict operating procedures. Unlike independent or uncertified shops, a Part 145 repair station can perform complex maintenance and return aircraft or equipment to service with FAA authorization, giving aircraft owners added assurance of safety, compliance, and workmanship.
“We’re excited to begin operations at our new facility in Wi******er,” Duncan said. “We’ve been extremely busy with a steady stream of aircraft but without a way to expand, so we’ve put a lot of focus on improving efficiencies. With this new hangar space, we can increase capacity, hire additional staff when needed, and speed up turnaround for our customers.”
He added: “I can’t say enough about how welcoming and accommodating everyone has been—Airport Manager Katelyn Sanders, the airport board, and Mayor Sean Crabtree have all gone above and beyond to make this transition smooth for us.”
The hangar measures 100x100 feet under one roof with 80x100 feet of aircraft space. It also includes offices, a dedicated parts room and a benchwork lab. Few avionics shops still offer bench work, but Duncan maintains this specialty capability to test, diagnose, and make minor repairs on radios, transponders, and navigators separate from the aircraft.
Thom Duncan Avionics is an authorized dealer for all major avionics manufacturers, including Garmin, Genesys Aerosystems, BendixKing, Shadin, Sigtronics, FreeFlight Systems, Aspen Avionics, J.P. Instruments, PS Engineering, and Avidyne. The company’s six-member team includes FAA-certified Inspection Authorization (IA) and Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanics, servicing a wide range of single- and twin-engine aircraft including Beechcraft, Cessna, Grumman, Piper, Socata, and more. Customers come primarily from Middle Tennessee, northwest Georgia, northern Alabama, and Mississippi, with some traveling from as far away as Canada and California.
While he and his team are excited to be working in a larger space, Duncan also expressed gratitude for the company’s beginnings in Fayetteville, TN: “Fayetteville was where we got our start, and I’ll always be grateful for the support of Fayetteville Aviation, Mark Cobb, the pilots, and the community there. That foundation helped us grow to the point where this expansion was even possible,” he added.
