We love bathroom remodel projects because, well, the details are so much fun. In this we took a very tiny, outdated powder room and changed the ceiling lines, pushed the toilet into some space under the adjacent stairwell, installed an original sink from another part of the house, selected some gorgeous wallpaper, and installed some chic hardware details. Recessed lighting brightens the small space and two different types of Italian porcelain tile is carried through the foyer to create a dramatic entrance.

This has reached completion. From a small bedroom and neglected stairwell, we were able to significantly raise the ceiling in conformance with engineered drawings, insulate, remove a wall, refinish original pine floors, install new and recessed lighting, create new built-in bookshelves, clean and paint, and work with a local woodworker to recreate 10’ of balusters and railing where an existing wall was removed.

Whatever your style is, it’s great to restore the original components of an old house and add some modern comforts along the way. Don’t forget to support small businesses - sofa from and art from and to name a few.

100+ year-old pine flooring that has been freshly sanded - it really does like to show off a little bit, doesn’t it?!

We will apply for a natural, matte appearance that will keep this floor looking beautiful into the future.

Have you ever heard that the cobbler’s children have no shoes? Well, we think it’s a good idea to share some skill at home - although those home projects may take a little bit longer because of our busy schedule.

Remodeling a allows us to experiment with some creative ideas. This project began as a remodel for our daughter’s bedroom. We knew we wanted to raise what were below seven foot ceilings. But when we opened up the space, reframed and blocked the ceiling to a new 8’6” height, we knew this area would need to become an airy loft. Because of the way this ceiling was previously framed, the new framing plan had to be completed by an engineer.

We look forward to refinishing these and preserving the old handrails- even replicating the balusters above the stairwell. Since we removed all of the old plaster, we are able to uncover and show off that cool little window in the upper hallway. By the way, remodeling an old house is messy so we make sure to take all safety necessary precautions.

Not every contractor gets the opportunity to work with homeowners who have great style, vision, and a true sense of what it means to entertain and live well. We hit the jackpot when we were chosen by and to remodel their home. This place is super unique, with and an island brick fireplace that needed to be integrated into the design and construction. The homeowners envisioned an transition from room to room. We engaged structural engineers to evaluate the removal or redesign of any load-bearing walls, completed demolition, installed support beams, and created a new kitchen, living spaces, cocktail bar, sunroom, and an additional fireplace (this one, stone)!

We refinished existing hardwood floors to match newly installed oak hardwood floors, painted all common areas, and completely reframed a porch to become a sunroom. New lighting was installed - recessed lighting, pendant lighting, and under-cabinet/in-cabinet lighting by Logic Electric. New appliances were furnished by locally-owned and installed by Fenco.

The beautiful masonry work was performed by Mid Valley Masonry with supply from Frederick Block, and meticulous painting by Carter’s Custom Painting.

Other suppliers/sub-contractors to note: Shenandoah Woodworks, May Supply, Stoneburner, Virginia Hardwood Floors, All Plumbing, Carl Strickler.

There are a few more details to complete, but we think that this place is ready to entertain! Check new posts for some close-up details and some before/afters.

We thought that you might be wondering what the finished product looked like on this deck replacement...it turned out beautifully! We utilized composite decking for a low maintenance, high quality appearance and worked with Crider & Phillips on this deck railing.

We know this family will enjoy this for years to come and we appreciate the ability to provide a space for respite.
