Solid Caustic Soda - Where is the trustworthy source in the Vietnam market?
Caustic soda (CS), also known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is a byproduct of chlorine production. It exists in both solid and liquid phases. In the liquid phase, the concentration of NaOH typically ranges from 50% to 73%. In its solid form, caustic soda is generally found in flakes and pearls, containing 100% NaOH.
In Vietnam, five manufacturers are producing liquid caustic soda with concentrations of 32% and 45%. Currently, no manufacturer can produce solid caustic soda. Besides, the high cost of domestic shipment and warehousing poses challenges for utilizing low-concentration liquid caustic soda in the market.
Caustic soda finds widespread application in various industries, including aluminum, paper, and, pulp mills, soap and detergent manufacturing, and water treatment.
Due to the high cost and the absence of domestic production for solid caustic soda (CS), many companies have to import it from various countries such as Taiwan, China, Thailand, India, and the UAE. Formosa Plastic Corporation - FPC holds the fourth position in the global ranking for solid CS production. Their caustic soda plants are situated in Mailiao and Jenwu (in Yulin County and Kaoshiung). The Jenwu Plant can produce CS, with a yearly capacity of 50 KMT in the form of flakes and 100 KMT as micropearls.
