Lime calculation(Double Slag practices)
Change mix in EAF
MS Scrap = 4500 kg ( Si =0.3%) yield 92%
DRI=2500 kg (SiO2 =3%) yield 80%
After melt of total mix material
Wt of LM=6100kg
C= 0.03% oxigen 1000 ppm
Lime calculation for oxidation slag process
SiO2 found from DRI =(2500×3)/100=75 kg
Si found from MS =0.3% of MS Scrap
Wt of Si from MS Scap
=(4500×0.3)/100=13.5 kg
After melt of total mix material
Silica product (By si from Scrap)
SiO2= 2.14×Wt of Si=2.14×13.5=28.89 kg
Total silica product = SiO2 =75+28.89=103.89kg
Taking basicity of oxidation slag=B=2
Required wt of CaCO3 for oxidation slag process= (B×SiO2)/0.56
=(2×103.89)/0.56 =371kg
If CaCO3 efficiency of lime stone is 85%
Wt of required lime stone for oxidation slag= (371/85)×100 =436.47 kg
Lime Calculation for reducing slag
After oxidation Slag process, all slag is removed from furnace, After than metal is killed by Si addition and new slag is made
in metal. This slag is called reduction slag
Wt of molten metal =6100 kg
Oxigen 1000 ppm/0.1% in LM
Wt of oxigen = (6100×0.1)/100 =6.1 kg
Wt of Si required to reduce of oxigen
=* 0.875×6.1=5.33 kg
Than Silica product getting=SiO2
=2.14×5.33=11.40kg
Taking basicity of reducing slag =B =3
Required wt of CaCO3 for reducing slag process= (B×SiO2)/0.56
=(3×11.40)/0.56 =61.07kg
Wt of required lime stone for reducing slag= (61.07/85)×100 =71.85 kg
Wt of total lime stone =436.47+71.85
=508.32 kg
