Nothing like welding in the high heat of the summer. Yesterday’s job was welding up around a cracked bushing on an excavator. This one was also previously repaired with some subpar welds that required a little extra grinding to remove. Finished off the day by replacing some wear plates on another piece of equipment in the same gravel quarry.

Skid-steer buckets seem to be a popular project that I get asked to do. This one had been repaired previously by someone else but just couldn’t hold up. I ground out all of the old welds and then added a couple extra passes for good measure. I ended up doing this one overnight at the end of last week since the daytime temperatures were 90 degree plus.

Today’s project took me to the middle of nowhere for a new client. All of the bolts holding the drive sprocket on sheared off right as they were about to wrap up a pond digging project. The first problem to conquer was the master link for the track that did not want to come out. After some persuasion it was time to weld some nuts on all the broken bolts and work them out so everything could get replaced. All in all, a good day working in some great weather with a couple happy customers at the end of the day.

My cousin took these last summer while I was welding up some cracks on his “new” skid steer. He reached out right away after I purchased my engine-driven welder which was instantly put to use!

Another quick project knocked out last week. A new customer contacted me to replace the king pin in a log trailer he bought used so he could get it on the road. It was pretty rusty and the grinder barely fit for surface prep but I was able to get good pe*******on to ensure a strong weld. He was in the process of moving 2 hours away so we made sure to get it done asap.

After 3 years of business and numerous inquiries, Darc-Weldz officially has a mobile welding machine. This will allow me to help clients (almost) anywhere you are, from out in the middle of a field to right in your own driveway. Another aluminum project out the door. Another local welding shop reached out to me about taking over welding up these 8’x8’ logging trailer headache racks, as they are busy with their usual work. Aluminum is always a challenge to work with as the properties that make it easy to alter can also work against you if you don’t pay attention. I’m grateful for having the chance to build a relationship with another local business and hope to work along side them in the future!

Another day, another job done! The floor of this quad axle dump truck was pretty beat up before I started the day. Between the heat from the sun and the welder inside this hotbox, I was beat by the end of the day! Welded up the cracks in the original floor and then covered it with a new sheet of AR400 welded all the way around plus 34 plug-welds to keep it in place.

Dirt Bros Excavating seem to have been busy from day one of starting their business, and that leads to wear and tear on the equipment. Thankfully, I’m the one they trust to help them get welding repairs done so they can get back to digging in the dirt!

On top of my primary welding contract I’ve been busy with other projects over the last couple months. One I always enjoy doing is welding up the trailer frame for a mini-home. I believe this is the sixth one I have done for Northern Tiny Living but the first two be completed in their new shop. The overhead crane was a big help in handling the steel needed to construct these heavy-duty trailers!
