The Church’s Freelance Marketplace
Shaar (rhymes with care), from the Hebrew word for “a gate”, is a marketplace for church leaders and freelance ministry professionals to connect.
When you’re in the trenches in ministry, it’s exciting and at times, overwhelming. There’s always more on the to-do list than resources to complete. A big vision, a passion to reach people for Christ, and unwavering determination are what propels you forward.
We know the feeling. We know what it’s like to be a one-person team, wearing all the hats, and hoping the church will grow. We’ve felt the pressure of limited resources and wondering where to turn to get talented help (at a reasonable price). After all, you need more hands-on-deck. However, you may not have the need (or the budget) to add a full-time employee and you’re not sure where to find who you’re looking for anyway. On the other hand, we’ve met countless seminary students and bi-vocational professionals who’re looking for side hustle gigs to support themselves and their families. While they manage to make that work, there should be an easier way to find churches that could use their skill sets. And that’s when Shaar was born (in concept, anyway). Maybe you need a graphic designer for a few hours a week. Perhaps a virtual assistant or someone with seminary training who can handle sermon research would save you several hours per month. Instead of hiring someone full-time (especially when the church budget can’t support that), you could hire a few talented freelancers to handle specialized projects. You might be a web designer, bookkeeper, or project manager who would love to use your skills to serve the church (and maintain a great side hustle or business in the process). We’re passionate about connecting talented believers with church leaders who want their expertise. From bookkeeping, social media, web design, and much more, we’re excited to make these virtual meetings happen. Now, the concept of linking freelance professionals to organizations that need part-time help isn’t new. In fact, roughly 36% of the U.S. workforce are freelancers. However, looking for ministry-minded professionals on other freelance sites is challenging at best. At Shaar, you’ll be able to see a freelancer’s statement of faith and any ministry credentials they have before you hire them. Let’s bridge the gap between the projects church leaders need to complete and the skills freelance ministry professionals bring to the table.
