As a weight loss coach, I am not upset about people trying to lose weight. Our culture has shown people (women especially) that weight loss is imperative for health. Diet culture aside, the thing that pi**es me off the most is the lies influencers, doctors, trainers, nutritionists, etc., tell their clients to help them lose weight.

If someone requires you to buy a supplement or specific plan, they are a sales rep and do not have your best interest in mind.

If anyone has one company they support (not their own), they don't have your best interest in mind.

If someone sells MLM supplements, they likely don't have your best in mind.

You should question it when anyone claims something is harmful to you without talking about the amount.

How many carbs you should have depends on the person and many factors. Carbs are the brain's preferred source of energy. Without carbs, you're missing out on vital micronutrients and arguably happiness. With attention to calories, carbs are not bad for you in the slightest. Sure, there are more nutrient-dense carbs, but in moderation, even the most satisfying foods are not bad.

Artificial sweeteners have been extensively studied and proven to be safe for human consumption. Aspartame can be safely consumed to about 3500mg. 12-ounce diet soda has 200mg aspartame. You will experience other symptoms of excessive soda consumption before you experience any side effects from aspartame.

There is the potential that GMOs provide health benefits. GMOs have been heavily studied, and there is no evidence that GMO consumption causes any harm to humans. We have been eating GMOs for more than twenty years, and no adverse health issues have been reported.

MSG is sodium and glutamate, and both are found in different aspects o the diet. The claims that MSG consumption leads to headaches, numbing, flushing, palpitations, and drowsiness have never been replicated in a double-blind study.

Don't let fear-mongering nutritionists impact your relationship with food. Food in moderation is safe. Anything in an extreme excess has adverse health outcomes. Have some veggies and a diet soda. You'll be supporting a balanced diet, might lose some weight, and will be much happier about your diet.

Artificial sugars include aspartame, saccharin, Sucralose, stevia, and acesulfame K. None of these alone are known to raise insulin levels. This myth stems from the insulin response that stems from calories. Artificial sugars do not contain calories, so they cannot raise insulin. Artificial sugars consumed in the presence of sugar and calories will spike insulin. Sugar alcohol like erythritol, xylitol, and Maltitol contain calories and therefore can raise blood sugar. In moderation, healthy individuals do not need to worry about consuming sugar alcohol. However, they are not the best substitute for patients with type 2 diabetes.

As the reader, you must ask yourself if you are looking for one possible outcome or looking at all the research with an open mind. When we look at scientific research, we have to consider the bias, if any, research takes. For example, is someone profiting off publishing the research?

Looking at research only to confirm your bias is easy. Research exists to suggest the earth is flat, and the reason no one falls off of it is that we live in a Pac-Man-type universe. Once we hit the edge, we teleport to the other edge to keep moving in the direction we are going. Now, we can say this is silly due to common sense. But if you are a flat-earther, you could find research to show this does happen.

Finding a piece of research to confirm your bias without looking at the credibility of the authors and any bias the authors may have will sway your research. Keep an open mind and don’t fall for confirmation bias.

Long COVID are the symptoms you have after recovering from COVID-19. More than half of the 236 million people diagnosed with COVID-19 will have lingering symptoms. We aren’t sure if some of the symptoms will go away or people will be left with lingering symptoms for the rest of their life.

Over half of all COVID-19 patients reported fatigue, fever, pain, or weight loss. One in five experienced a decrease in mobility. A quarter experience difficulty concentrating. One-third experience generalized anxiety disorders. 60% of COVID survivors report chest pain, difficulty breathing, and abnormal chest imaging. One in five people experiences hair loss or rashes. Chest palpitations, chest pain, stomach pain, lack of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea are the most common long-term symptoms of COVID-19.

Vaccinated individuals are about half as likely to develop long-COVID than unvaccinated individuals. We understand that vaccinations help prevent people from being infected with COVID-19, which will lead to a decreased chance of developing long-COVID. However, research is still new, and we need more research to show why people are less likely to develop long-COVID.

Were you infected with COVID, and did you experience long-haul symptoms?
