Reliability Design is done to ensure that the production system and its equipment will function when reliably when needed. It can include adding redundant functions, using the right material, and choosing components with low failure rates. Designing for maintainability is done to make replacing parts and performing repairs safer, faster, and easier. It can include easy access to equipment, easy access to lifting devices, and design enabling visible inspection of components.
