Hate to break it to you, but your research area is most likely NOT the thing blocking your way into high-impact journals. Your writing is.

Buuuut… good news: that’s a much easier fix. Here’s what you should focus on first ⬇️

🌍 Explain why your research area matters: Make them care from the start.
🔍 Identify key gaps: Bridge the relevance to the bigger picture.
✍️ Write for a broader audience: Speak their language, not just yours.

Reintroducing myself because we are growing into such a big community here — have I told you yet HOW MUCH I FREAKING LOVE THIS?!🧚🏽

Some more fun facts about me for the nosy ones (myself included):
- I’m from outside Pittsburgh, PA, and fell in love with the Azores 🌋during COVID! Before that, I did my postdoc in Switzerland (where I originally founded ButlerSciComm!) and decided to move EVERYTHING right after I got my Swiss permanent residence, haha -ops…

- I own a one-eyed kitten 🐈which I got as a fluffy ball of fur — she’s called Sadie the Pirate Kitten and yes, of course she has her own insta account too! 🐾

- Crocheting became my most recent obsession — We all agree that therapeutic crocheting is a thing, right? RIGHT!? 🧶

- If I could choose a goddess, it would be Taylor! 👯‍♀️

- I would trade the ocean and mountains ANYTIME for the city. It’s been toooo long since my last dive! 🐠🦈

- Spend at least some time of each day with my nose in a book. Last year I reached my count of 100 books read!📚

AND THERE IS MORE…🥁🥹 As some of you already know (and maybe even found me on IG because of it), I’m launching a writing platform this August! Scribology — some of you might have already seen this word on the free template! And I am already feeling ALL THE FEELS! ❤️‍🔥

We started our first free writing challenge(which is already a part of Scribology), and what can I tell you? It’s been messy, scary and a lot — but also incredible. We’ve already got participants from Lebanon, Ghana, India, a small university with no funding in KT, and more. 🥲🙏✨

My long-term vision has always been to impact research in less-funded or under-resourced areas — and this is exactly what is already happening! In the Q&A‘s at the end of our first workshop, one Doc even asked whether we would have a forum (coming very soon), because he wanted better access to connections as well.

My dream has always been to impact research in less-funded areas, and seeing this happen already feels HUGE. 🌍
