Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, in honour of the Indigenous children lost to and the survivors of the Canadian residential school system in order to recognize them, their families and their communities. This public commemoration is a crucial step towards the reconciliation process.
We encourage you to wear orange to show your support and raise awareness for the generational impacts of residential schools and promote that 'Every Child Matters'. The orange shirt symbolizes the erasure of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children and people over generations.
Please consider wearing orange and attending a local or online event in honour of the survivors and their families for this year's Truth and Reconciliation Day.
You can find local events on our website on the events page and by checking out your local eventbrite listings.
