We are incredibly proud to share that Sand Dune Studio on Minjerribah is officially featured in the latest Renovation + Retrofit issue of Sanctuary magazine (Issue 75)!
The new 27-square-metre interior consists of an open, adaptable sleeping and living space with a small kitchen and a bathroom hidden behind. Built-in bench seats with storage underneath work beautifully as daily seating, daybeds, or for travel baggage unloading. When it's time to let the outside in, the glass and batten-screen doors slide completely away to open the entire living space up to a private, screened courtyard.
Building with the environment in mind is at the heart of what we do, and this tiny sanctuary is packed with high-performance, sustainable elements:
FSC-certified spotted gum was selected for its durability and environmental credentials across the joinery.
Kobe board—a highly compressed, sustainable blend of plantation eucalyptus and cement—was used as a low-maintenance, heavy-duty wall lining.
Zero waste design, utilizing whole sheets of plantation pine ply for the raked ceilings to minimize on-site cutting and waste.
100% handcrafted on the island—because of the unique transport logistics, we custom-built the solid casement windows, timber joinery, and sliding screens ourselves right here on site.
Our deepest gratitude to for the beautiful 6-page feature, and to our dedicated team who sweated every single detail.
Issue 75 is on out now! To read the full design breakdown and explore how we're creating smarter, more sustainable homes, head over to sanctuary.renew.org.au.
