The University of South Alabama School of Computing is the only stand-alone school of computing in the State of Alabama. Acredited by ABET, our students are given the opportunity to earn undergraduate degrees in four different programs: Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Tech

nology, or Health Informatics. Students can choose to continue on in their education in our Masters Degree and Ph.D programs. We offer multiple scholarships, internships, and grant opportunities for our School of Computing students. The graduates of the School of Computing are securing a future in the fast-moving, high tech, cyber world.

In addition to celebrating our graduates on Friday, we also celebrated a retirement. Congratulations to Dr. Jeff Holifield as he begins a new adventure — retirement!

Dr. Holifield has served as an instructor in the School of Computing for the past 14 years. In December 2025, he completed his Ph.D. in Computing, a remarkable achievement and testament to his dedication to lifelong learning. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Holifield served in the U.S. Air Force and also worked in the IT industry.

We are grateful for the impact he has made on our students, faculty, and the School of Computing community over the years. We wish him all the best in retirement!

Finals week = TLC week in the School of Computing and the University of South Alabama College of Engineering!

Each semester during finals, we host a week-long TLC table stocked with snacks and treats to help support our students as they power through projects and exams. This year, we added a special de-stressor event with adorable, adoptable puppies — giving students a chance to take a much-needed study break for some puppy love. 🐶

The event was a huge success, and we’re incredibly thankful to Save a Stray and their volunteers for bringing the dogs for our students, faculty, and staff to enjoy!
