We are proud and honored to share that our CEO Ali Dirul, has been featured by The Kresge Foundation as one of the Five Black leaders redefining climate action by centering equity, health, and justice.

This recognition highlights a growing movement of leaders who are not only advancing innovative climate solutions but are also ensuring that these solutions are equitable, inclusive, and community-driven. Ali’s work focuses on creating pathways for community-owned solar, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable energy systems that deliver long-term value and empowerment to historically underinvested communities.

Being recognized by The Kresge Foundation— one of the nation’s most respected philanthropic institutions dedicated to equitable urban development, climate resilience, and social impact — is a testament to the importance of centering justice, health, and equity in climate leadership. This feature places Ali among a distinguished group of leaders whose work is driving systemic change and demonstrating that the clean energy transition can and must benefit all communities.

The feature also comes at a pivotal moment, as climate action increasingly intersects with social and economic equity. Ali’s vision and leadership exemplify the type of bold, intentional, and community-focused approach needed to meet this moment — creating solutions that not only address environmental challenges but also strengthen communities, promote ownership, and foster long-term resilience.

We are proud to celebrate this milestone and remain committed to supporting Ali and the broader mission of advancing equitable, sustainable, and justice-centered climate solutions.

From Darkness to Destiny: Highland Park Lights the Way

We at Ryter Cooperative Industries are proud to be part of a historic moment in Highland Park, where — after more than a decade without streetlights — the community now shines with solar-powered light and renewed hope.

In partnership with Soulardarity and the Highland Park community, 10 solar-powered streetlights were installed, lighting the first of many streets that have been in darkness since 2011. This marks not just the return of light, but the rise of a community-driven vision for energy justice and resilience.
Our Chief Operating Officer, Karanja Famodou, stood alongside Soulardarity’s Executive Director Shimekia Nichols, Mayor Glenda McDonald, Rev. Devin Gough of Revival Tabernacle, Communications Lead Khary Frazier, Highland Park Coordinator Max Boyd, and Membership Coordinator Caton Jones to celebrate this milestone — a testament to what’s possible when communities lead and organizations unite.

This isn’t just about lights — it’s about empowerment, unity, and building a brighter future together.

Join the movement, get involved, and be part of the change: Soulardarity.org/join
This is more than infrastructure — this is a renaissance. Highland Park shines again.
