On Thursday 30th November, INSULAE consortium presented the final results of the project, in a 3.5h-session during the last day of Enlit Europe Conference and Exhibition in Paris.
The event was open to the public while online attendance was also available via webex. In the same context, during the 3 days of Enlit the consortium held a booth in the EU projects area, where the partners had the chance to promote the project to the visitors of the exhibition.
The final event started with some introductory questions about the audience role in order to engage with them and acquire some information regarding their views about decarbonization and challenges in island energy systems.
Then, the coordinator Leon Nielsen ( - Centro Tecnológico ) provided an overview of the project and the agenda of the event.
In the first panel, the lighthouse partners (Fakultet strojarstva i brodogradnje EEM - Electricidade da Madeira, S.A., Tekniske Universitet - DTU , Ericsson Nikola Tesla) under the broad topics of Battery storage and renewables, Electrification of Transport, and Integrated systems presented the results from the 7 use cases (UC) in the three islands, Unije, Bornholm and Madeira.
☑UC 1 - Joint management of hybridized RES and storage (Unije)
☑UC2 - Smart integration and control of water and energy systems (Unije)
☑UC3 – Empowerment of islands’ energy communities through 5G and IoT (Unije)
☑UC4 – Transition to DC Microgrids (Bornholm)
☑UC 5 -Realization of a bio-based economy (Bornholm)
☑UC6 - Electrification of Transport (Madeira)
☑UC7 – Stabilization of the grid through improvised assets and interconnections (Madeira)
The second panel, started with a short slido session to introduce the key elements considered for efficient planning and replication of decarbonisation solutions. Then, the development of the Investment Planning Tool (IPT) within INSULAE, including the replication activities in follower islands (Menorca, Marie Galante, Norderney, Psara) and its introduction to more islands were presented by Artelys and Εθνικό Κέντρο Έρευνας και Τεχνολογικής Ανάπτυξης (CERTH).
