🏖️ For tourists, it’s an adventure. For beach wildlife, it’s a disaster.
Driving ATVs and other vehicles across beaches may look exciting, but the sand is not an empty playground. It can be a nesting ground, nursery and feeding habitat for shorebirds, turtles and many small coastal creatures.
Their eggs are often perfectly camouflaged in the sand. One careless tyre can crush an entire nest before the driver even notices. Noise and fast-moving vehicles also frighten parent birds away, leaving eggs and chicks exposed to heat, predators and starvation.
We arrive for a few minutes of entertainment.
They depend on that beach for survival.
Respect protected nesting areas. Keep vehicles away from dunes and shorelines. Walk carefully, keep dogs controlled and give wildlife enough space.
Adventure should create memories—not destroy new life. 🐣💔
