Peek Inside a Midcentury Remodel with a Floating Roof and Tons of Natural Light

“Our vision was to buy a ranch house, take off the roof and make something that was architecturally interesting that would still fit the neighborhood,” homeowner Melissa Pilley says. However, finding an architect for the project proved challenging, as several expressed their doubts about her idea. The couple even considered starting fresh with a teardown until they met Joel Contreras, who was excited to work with them.

Here is a patio cover we re-built and also converted an old 10x10 storage shed into a backyard oasis. This project included an engineered cantilevered Ramada to shade the spa, an outdoor shower, and carefully placed trees to provide year-round shade and privacy. Notice how the dominant teal-blue cool color flows in both areas while the warm yellow accents near the house transition into fiery orange as one walks into the spa area. The breeze-blocks came from Palm Springs. Furniture by Fermob. Featuring Japanese rain cups, overhead outdoor lighting, and plenty of edible plants like mint and limes! Coming Soon! RoRo-Dogs is a small but very complicated commercial project we are currently working on. We are working with the City of Phoenix and Maricopa County to make sure we are following all the health codes and rules so we can quickly finish and can start enjoying some great hot dogs!! It helps that the owners are awesome and fun to work with, too.
