Why We “Feed Water” to Brick Walls Before Plastering 🧱💦

Yes — it’s not just an old habit, it’s backed by real construction science!

🔹 Reason 1 – Stop the Brick from Stealing Water
Dry bricks are thirsty! If they absorb water too fast from the plaster mix, the cement won’t have enough time to hydrate, which means weaker bonding.

🔹 Reason 2 – Better Bonding Power
A slightly damp surface keeps the water-cement ratio just right, giving the plaster stronger adhesion.

🔹 Reason 3 – Fewer Cracks Later
If plaster loses water too quickly, it shrinks too much and can develop fine cracks.

📏 Construction Standards Agree
Guidelines like MS 1294, BS 8000-3, and IS 1661 all recommend moistening brickwork before plastering — not soaking, just enough to control absorption.

💡 In short: This step controls the brick’s absorption rate, making the plaster stronger, longer-lasting, and less crack-prone.
