Fotortec We at Fotortec are dedicated to processing agricultural waste into products for the food, agricultural, energy, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.

- English: Fotortec is a self-funded project created by microbiologist Rami Jada’a who lives and works in Bogota, Colombia. Rami initiated the project during his studies at Universidad De Los Andes where he started with producing edible high-content protein mushrooms from agricultural waste. After graduation, the project was elevated to a higher scale of production and currently aims to transform

150 KGs of unmanageable agricultural waste in the form of orange peel produced by the university into 30 KGs of high protein edible mushrooms daily that benefit the homeless population within the neighboring area. Poverty is a prominent issue in Colombia where 28% of the population live under the poverty line while 4 out of 10 children and up to 7 out of 10 in rural areas of Colombia suffer from acute malnutrition. This situation must stop and a sustainable food production system is needed, a system that provides high quality food at an affordable price and just as important, to be respectful to nature. We at Fotortec aim to achieve what the conventional animal agriculture industry simply cannot aspire to: provide the Colombian population with an affordable, nutritious, organic and vegetarian source of high quality protein and fiber that is affordable by man and nature as it not only will help us process the humongous amounts of agricultural waste produced daily and help us reverse the loss of the green surface of Earth but also feed our planet with clean O2 rich air.

- Español: Fotortec es un Proyecto autofinanciado creado por el microbiólogo Rami Jada’a quien vive y trabaja en Bogotá, Colombia. Rami inició esta empresa durante sus estudios en la Universidad de Los Andes produciendo hongos comestibles de alto contenido proteico a partir de desechos agro industriales. Después de graduarse, el Proyecto fue elevado a una escala de producción superior y actualmente apunta a convertir 150 Kilogramos de cáscara de naranja producidos dentro de la universidad cada día en 30 kilogramos de hongos comestibles de alto contenido proteico, esto al servicio de la población indigente aledaña. La escasez de alimentos es un gran problema en Colombia, donde el 28% de la población vive bajo la línea de la pobreza; 4 de cada 10 niños y hasta 7 de cada 10 en zonas rurales de Colombia sufre malnutrición aguda. Esto debe parar, un sistema de producción de alimentos sostenible es necesario, un sistema que provea alimentos de calidad a precios razonables y que del mismo modo respete la Naturaleza. Nosotros en Fotortec apuntamos a alcanzar lo que las actividades agropecuarias convencionales simplemente no pueden hacer: Proveer a la población colombiana con fuentes orgánicas de alta calidad de proteína vegetariana y fibra a un precio admisible para el ser humano y Naturaleza al manejar desproporcionados volúmenes de desechos agrícolas, revertiendo la perdida de superficie fotosintética y nutriendo al planeta de aire limpio, rico en O2.

This recognition marks a major milestone for us — one that opens the door to Far East Asia, and especially Singapore, the region’s capital of food-tech innovation.
