The Department of Energy (DOE) in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), supported by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) initiated the project: Market Transformation through the introduction of Energy Efficiency Standards and the Labelling of Appliances in South Africa in 2011. The five-year programme is primarily aim

ed at purging the South African market of inefficient appliances and to introduce energy efficient appliances. The project is expected to influence consumption patterns by raising awareness of policy makers, manufacturers, distributors (importers) and consumers, via the introduction of efficiency standards and labels into the market.
