Dear Fellow Tau Bates,

The Greater Austin Science and Engineering Fair needs judges. Please volunteer!
The Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair is one of Texas’ largest regional science fairs with almost 3,000 students from 3rd through 12th grade. It encourages and rewards innovative student research and provides scientists, engineers and other professionals a chance to volunteer in the community.
Winning Junior/Senior Division projects advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair. Best of Fair Senior Division projects advance directly to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.
At this point there are 184 JR/SR Judges out of the 350 needed, and 97 Elementary Judges out of 250, so it is clear more judges are needed. Tau Bates are especially suited for the senior and junior divisions . JR/SR Judging will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at the Palmer Events Center:
Seniors from 8 am to noon, Juniors from 12:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

If you can't judge on Thursday, judge the elementary division on Saturday. If you don't want to judge, there are many volunteer opportunities as well.

Whether you volunteer tor the SR/Junior division or the elementary division on Saturday February 21 it will be a great experience. interacting with these budding scientists/ engineers. There will be free breakfasts and lunches as well.

For further information and to register go to the GARSEF website.

Reposting an announcement from Tricia Gomulinski:

Hello, fellow Tau Bate!

We are looking for new officers for the Central Texas Alumni Chapter of Tau Beta Pi. The Central Texas Alumni Chapter covers San Antonio and Austin and everywhere in between.

What does an alumni chapter do?

It is up to the officers and the members, but many chapters hold networking events, get together for happy hours or have a meal together, visit local manufacturing facilities or other local areas of engineering or scientific interest, work with the local collegiate chapters, volunteer at food banks, science fairs, or robotic competitions, etc. Alumni chapters are a way for TBP alumni to continue to participate with Tau Beta Pi after graduation, as you are a member of TBP for life.

How much time does it take?

Again, that is up to you and the chapter. I encourage chapters to host an event every quarter (every three months) so your members know you are still visible but you don't burn out your officers planning events. You can decide on more events, and I encourage you to share the planning among the officer team.

What officers are needed?

Per the chapter bylaws, the chapter should have a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and two Directors, one being a Director of Communications. Officer descriptions are included in the bylaws. Officers serve one year - June 1 through May 31. Officers are to be elected in May, which has been missed, so we will do elections as soon as possible.

What should I do if I am interested in becoming an officer or even a member of the chapter?

If you are interested in becoming an officer of the alumni chapter, please reply to this email no later than Monday, August 11, with your interest. If you are not already a member of the chapter but would like to be, please email the current Central Texas Alumni Chapter officers at [email protected] and ask to be added to their chapter email list.

Feel free to send me any questions.

Thank you for your consideration!
