Dredging for gold is allowed in MA, ME, NH & CT. You must adhere to each states regulations, if listed. It is not always easy to find the regulations because some states don't get enough prospecting activity to legislate it. VT does not allow dredging & sluicing is by permit only. NH allows dredging by permit & written land owner permission. They take their regulations very seriously as one prospe

ctor in Bath NH had been undercutting the river banks during the Winter. Causing bank cave-ins at the local swimming hole. The town of course blamed dredgers & no prospecting is allowed on town property any longer. Other private location in Bath NH are aggressively monitored by the town police. He has told me that anyone caught without proper permits & permissions slips will have their equipment confiscated & a $1,000.00 fine. Maine & Mass allow dredging with land owner permission. I offer a guided gold prospecting adventures. I guarantee that everyone I bring out prospecting will find gold. Most have found small nuggets & the best gold they have ever found. The trips include the following services;


1. Using the best techniques so that you will loose no gold.

2. I will teach you how to read the rivers & creeks. Prove to you why gold lays where it does and why you can always find it there.

3. How to tell if someone else has already dug in the spot you are digging so that you don't waist your time.

5. I don't just take you to any ole place that I have found gold.

6, I will show you where you can find gold in several different spots on the creek, so that if you aren't having as much luck in one spot, you can move on to another.

7. I will teach you how to find gold in crevices. And why some cracks hold gold & why some do not. These things cannot be learned by reading a book. You have to see with your own eyes to understand.

8. I will put you on the very best location that I have been finding NUGGETS!

9. While I charge for a one day trip, you can return as often as you like. To retrieve as much gold as your time allows. Such as in VT., I may take you panning on a Saturday but I stay over night camping & you are welcome to pan with me from then on at no charge. The spot I bring you to is now as much yours as mine.

10. When you leave you will have the knowledge to begin to find gold on your own. On any creek that is a known gold producer. Without a doubt. As long as you retain what I teach you. There are ton of things you could bring with you. I will try to list a few of the essentials to what I always bring.

1). Chest waders or high boots. The higher the better.
2). Shovel
3). 5 gallon Buckets
4). Classifier - to remove larger rocks. I like a half inch classifier.
5). Gold pans. I use a large pan & a finishing pan.
6). Plastic container to take home black sands. I remove magnetite after I dry it out then re-pan. Good rainy day or winter project.
7). sniffer bottle & vials for keeping gold. Crevicing tools, pry-bar, hammer, chisel, & I use a 3/4" by 4' long siphon tube to suck dirt out of the cracks when needed.
9). Dry cloths, towel, food & drink.
10). Gloves, very important while water is cold. I use water gloves during Summer so my hand have some tread left on them.

MAINE DREDGING ALERT!


Most of you are now aware of new legislation which we are trying to fight. There is something all of you can do to be heard on this.
If you will not be able to attend the hearing on Jan. 27th, your voice can still be heard.
You can prepare a statement. It can be as simple as just saying how you love to get out prospecting with your family to as complex as including evidence like studies, etc. This statement can be read at the public hearing on Jan. 27th (but limited to only 3 minutes time) or sent by email to the Clerk of the Joint Standing Committee at

If you are unsure of how to write it, here is an example:

"Senator Boyle, Representative Walsh and members of the Environmental and Natural Resources Committee:"
My name is _________________and I live in _______________________, Maine (or other state).
I am contacting you in opposition to LD1671 S.P. 646 An Act to Prohibit Motorized Recreational Gold Prospecting In Certain Atlantic Salmon and Brook Trout Spawning Habitats. Emergency.

If you have any factual evidence you would like each committee member to have after the meeting to review while they determine whether this bill should stay law, you will need to attend the meeting and have enough copies to give to each committee member, chair, clerk, etc. It is recommended you take 23 copies because if you don't have enough copies for every one necessary, then none of them can use your information.
