"An Industry Week survey, also commissioned by ATS, found that 39 percent of aerospace companies believe the labor shortage is having an “extreme” effect on their ability to grow their businesses" (Freaner 1). Freaner also states that long term solutions are necessary, however in order to increase current productivity, external strategic sourcing is a great way to maximize production efficiency.

Although the number of U.S. aerospace workers is shrinking, the skills need has increased, and a gap exists as older, experienced workers leave the labor force.
